Default Do I Dare Dream?

Believe it or not, the latest marine forecast is trending good for the latter part of the weekend...my fingers are crossed that it might just get a little better by Sunday morning.

Rock Pile anyone? Heck, inner reef anyone?

SAT...W WIND 10 KT...BECOMING SW 15 KT EARLY IN THE AFTERNOON.
WIND WAVES 3 FT. W SWELL 8 FT. CHANCE OF SHOWERS.
.SUN...S WIND 20 KT...BECOMING NW 15 KT EARLY IN THE AFTERNOON.
WIND WAVES 4 FT. W SWELL 6 FT.
.MON...NW WIND 15 KT. WIND WAVES 3 FT. W SWELL 5 FT.

Your ears must have been burning Steve! I was just on the phone with Pilar talking about the same exact thing! I think we're in if it holds out.

I'm in with Big Jon of 'Puffin'on Saturday. Can't fish Sunday, it is just too hard to be a trailer sailor on a Sunday. He is either going to be on his boat if parts arrive or in mine if they don't. This forecast is so much beter than the one they posted on Monday for the weekend.

Look at the trend ... better everyday for the last of the week. Also the rough is based on a westerly wind that swings to the south.

IMHO the west to south swing in wind direction is a no show 80% of the time.

Newport and some fresh Kings from the rockpile. They are moving north and I have a virgin downrigger to break in.

Looking for rider #2.......Mr. Anderson?

Guys,

I can't go Saturday -- spring football game, dang it...however, this is the last weekend of work for me until August....woohoo...or is that wahoo?

I'm looking to pop out to the Pile and troll for nooks, or worse case, drop the riggors a bit deeper and see if there are any catch and release halibut hanging out.

With luck that weather will hold until Tuesday! That is when I can go again. What timing, what luck! I would love to get a fat chinookie in the boat. Of course, bottom fishing is ALWAYS a delight! Anyone else consider Tuesday out of Newport?

Don't forget the bouy reports to guys, the ocean isn't always as bad as they are predicting.

Tuesday I was in Tillamook Bay doing the sandshrimping thing and the weateher was great. When I was done I checked with the coast gaurd and the bar was OPEN. I grabbed the crab pots and out I went. The forcast was 8' swells with 3'of wind chop, guess what it was 3' of swell and 6" of wind chop with the sun out.

This was my first bar crossing in the dory this year and it did great. I stuck around long enough to get 4 nice crab then had to head in (had 5 buckets of sandshrimp that weren't liking the sun bake).

Ken, congrats on getting your new boat wet again.
Weekends are bad for me but the trend is awsome and I'm hoping for a mid to late week departure.
Maybe we could get out?
Stay tuned...
WP? Its a Wed, Thur Fri thing for me most of the time but I'm taking the family up to Lopez the 1st weekend in May.
I sure want to get my boat salty though.
I'll touch base with you if I can get it together and make a run.
I'm liking the commercial reports and look forward to putting the hurt to the Salmon soon.

What does one do with 5 buckets of sand shrimp? That is a lot of bait!

I will volunteer as a bait boy, fish gutter/filet guy, boat washer, chum wiper (nobody on the dock wants to see that bile on your chin--etc, etc) almost any Thursday-Sunday through early June.
I could make a herring roll in a 20' swell with a 10' wind chop, catch the slimer, filet him, and serve sushi and saki all while whistling Dixie out my rear end.
Don't believe me? Now accepting applications!
Sheesh...sounds like one of them Willamette personal ads I've been reading about
OK, I wont whistle dixie through my alternate cheeks

Wildhawg,

Would that make them the Dixie Cheeks?

I was gonna take tomorrow off and head to Englund's in Newport, but one of the guys needs to stay home with his kids (school closure day) so I'll be here covering for him.

I might be going over early part of next week. I'll post before I go in case anyone needs me to pick something up. I know I'm getting some tuna hooks to share with Myles, as well as assorted "stuff."

That much sand shrimp goes to the bait shop (one of my side lines).

Anyone thinking of going out of Garibaldi this weekend?

Garibaldi is ok but watch out for tides, High slack is at 10:00 and low at 16:51. You get out in the morning and then it's an ebb with potential nasty bar for most of the day.

Ask Corrirod about this situation.

WOW, it just dropped from 15kts to 5kts in one hour! It still looks marginal for the weekend, but if anyone is going e-mail me, I'd prefer Newport but might be talked into Garibaldi.

Rod, let me know if I can make up for last weekend by taking you this weekend.

Based on the forecast, I'll be sorting the sock drawer again tomorrow. I'd go with you on Sunday, Rod but I had already made plans and it is too hard to do an ocean trip on Sunday with work on Monday.

Maybe next weekend..............

<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helv">Pilar- this used to not be a problem...what happened to us? Worst part for me is the Sun-Thurs Salmon fishery for the North coast till mid Aug. Man- that sucks! Gotta take Monday off just to fish Sunday? :depressed: To make it worse, the contractors I work with don't work Fridays and getting Friday Vaca day is no problemo! Double down bummer!
Gotta get to those 2 on 5 off work weeks!
