Default Anchor selection for new sled

I recently purchased an older flat bottom sled and was debating what style of anchor system I should get for her. She is 17 ft long and am planning on using her for the Sandy, NFL, and the Cowlitz. Any suggestions?

I am not to familiar with those rivers I mainly fish the CR
But if you are interested I have a 25lb rocking chair rubber coated
A 22lb foldable rocking chair brand new
190 ft of rope, metal anchor puller, 15inch ball and chain
Just cleaning out the garage
I have used the 25 lb in the CR for my 18 ft jet boat

I have a 16 lb ez marine type with 4ft of heavy chain and 3/8" rope that works great on my 17'7" alumaweld stryker center console. So far I have anchored up in 30 ft of water with a 2-3 mph current with no problems. It definitely does not grab as good as my 32 lb ez marine that I use for my 22 ft thunderjet but it is a lot lighter and easier to deploy and retrieve. EZ marine recommended anchor size. I think I bought mine at Joes.

Man, maybe I've got some underlying issues, but if you're buddies are pulling it up, I'd say go pretty large. I've got a 40lb river anchor (Basically a bullet with 4 large flat blades that stick out from the bottom) for our 17' Wooldridge sled. I would say it's inadequate for anchoring in some holes on the sky, skagit, snohomish, cowlitz etc. I know letting out more line helps, but you just can't do that in a lot of places. Especially when you've got 4-5 people in there and they are all moving around like idiots.

The next anchor I get will most likely be the 60lb version. Just remind your buddies its a good workout.

It's also how you drop it down. I usually try to drop it down and then back down slowly till it starts to grab, also give it a quick jerk in the beginning to get it laying right. Not sure if thats that best way, but it's the best way i've found.

A economical anchor is old car chain. Go to a wrecking yard and buy 30-40 pds of old car chain. You can tie it in a bundle and it will work well in the rivers you suggest. The problem with other types of anchors in the rivers is they could snag up and be difficult to break loose. Fishing the rivers would be using a anchor similiar to what you would use on a drift boat.

Good Luck;

Good choice, I use a 30lb for a slightly heavier bigger boat, works quite well.

Do not get a colo style anchor for these rivers. You will end up loosing it and or getting hurt trying to retrieve it.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions- I am thinking of a drift boat style setup of a pyramid/and or chain, coupled with a pulley system, as I often fish solo.
