Help for Puffin .......
Does anyone here have experience with hydraulics? My friend needs a custom hydraulic hose (steering) made that is 20 + feet long. The old one is kinked or damaged and Jon is looking for a replacement.
Thanking you in advance....

Re: Help for Puffin .......
Pilar- any of the tractor shops (Fischer Implements/Halton Tractor etc) have fittings and presses and hose. You gotta have the old hose and fittings to match it up. There are some "just hydraulic" shops around too. The one I used to use (Olsons) in Hillsboro closed down though. :depressed:
Good luck- the material ain't cheap!

Re: Help for Puffin .......
John,
You can try Fluid Connector Products in Portland if you can't find a tractor shop. They'll have everything in stock with all different types of connections but they are probably a little more expensive. Here's the info:
FLUID CONNECTOR PRODUCTS COMPANY
3342 NW 26TH AVE, PORTLAND, OR 97210

Re: Help for Puffin .......
What kind of steering is it? If it is teleflex Morse, West marine sells replacement hoses for $150 or so in 2' increments from 10-22'.

Re: Help for Puffin .......
A lot of the NAPA stores have fittings and hose. They can make just about anything you need.

Re: Help for Puffin .......
More about the hose. First, 'Puffin' says thanks Lee and all who tried to help. The hose is a Parkerflex, 1000psi , 5/16" ID and has type 'MS' fittings. I have never seen these before and they have an o-ring inside them. Jon called Ed Wing and got the number for Hydraflex. They have agreed to manufacture a replacement hose that is one foot longer than stock for $75. 24 ft was too short. It will be here Friday.
The failure was caused by the hose being too short and getting pulled on at at the fitting. This is something to watch for Skein and Crabbait. Both you guys should talk to Jon about the things to check out as Ed Wing builds your boat. This is the first problem Jon has had with his boat in 4 years.

Re: Help for Puffin .......
John, call the number I gave you for Fluid Connector Products. They are the Parker rep and will carry that hose and those fittings. Probably for alot less than $75.
In fact, once you call them, have them give you a quote including part numbers and send it to me. Make sure they give you the numbers for the hose and fittings seperately. I'll send it to a friend and depending on how much they try to ding you, he'll be able to get it at cost.
Let me know.
