Default Winchester Bay

I am heading down to Winchester for the weekend. I was planning on fishing for Salmon but the forcast doesn't look so good. Does anyone have any input on Pearch or Flounder down there? I am going to have a couple of kids in the boat that would enjoy the tugg of a pearch. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Larry G.,

Go for salmon in the river! Big Chinnies and cutfin Coho are waiting for your hooks, you can even use barbs. Most people think it is closed, but it isn't. Try the strip under the 101 bridge with cut-plug herring for Chinook and lower in the river with pink spinners or ocean type gear for Coho.

Use a miniature halibut rig for starry flounder in the bay and you will likely get a Chinook also. The flounder are in the river at least two miles up. Perch will be slower, but you might find some pockets of them in the river. They are underfished right in the harbor.

Then there are Sturgeon from Gardiner on up to the head of tide...and smallmouth bass around Scottsburg Park.

Have fun,

Bearden

Could be a little early for coho but there has been chinook caught in the river. Not many but they are around. Plug cut herring will get the job done.
