Threemuch Repower
Kurt, I can get you into that 200hp Evinrude Ocean Pro for 5K. I keep forgetting to ask Dad the year but It has to be 1996 or newer. He has never had a problem with it. It's just more power than he needs and he wants a new Honda. He is going with a 130hp from Stevens in Salem. His boat is stored up at Rufus right now.
You can call him at 503-876-6629. His name is Ed.

Re: Threemuch Repower
No Rod, no more outboards but I have a Volvo PJX jet pump for sale.
Actually I priced volvo outdrives the other day thinking about a conversion. OUCH!!
Better off just buying the new boat and giving the sled to charity.
I ordered the new suspension seats today. $1300.00 with swivel mounts. Thunderjet had the best price I could find.
I can live with the sled as long as I don't cark a kidney every time the ocean gets rough.

Re: Threemuch Repower
I think the plan is going to be to go for a new Merc 225 Optimax in about a year. Threemuch will spend the year in storage, with some minor refit work to close up that hole in her transom and put the bracket on. Thanks for looking.

Re: Threemuch Repower
Kurt - looks like you get to try out some other boats this year (actually not a bad deal). Hope Miss B is one of them, I'll be out of Warrenton June or July (depending on the Honey do list, hay season, maint. duration, phase of moon etc) through October.
Chasing Salmon in the blue till the season closes or the water warms up (TUNA!) with a few side trips to the shale pile for some bottom fishing.
Maybe some estuary Sturgeon trips for a little change too!
See you at Santana's ????

Kurt, you got a ride with me when you need one bro. It is a pleasure to fish with a salty dog like you!
Which 7-11 or liquor store will you be moonlighting at to save up for the big black motor?

Kurt, I'll throw in a seat too. I enjoy fishing with you and would welcome the opportunity whenever it presents itself.
Looking forward to the 17th

Re: Threemuch Repower
Same here Kurt. Let me know if you want to go after those larger "northern Oregon" halibut (Garibaldi). I'm sure I'll have an opening on the first weekend. I don't have any of those comfy $700.00 seats, so you might want to bring a pillow for the ride to the hill. Kasey

Re: Threemuch Repower
Fishplay, if I hit that motor with a hammer a few times would that knock about 25hp. off of it so it would work on my boat? My Trophy is only rated to 175hp, I don't think the Coasties would mind if I snudged a little would they?
That's a great deal on that motor, maybe I should buy the motor and find a new boat!

Kurt,
At least you have been able to settle on a solution and can now focus on achieving the goals you have set in place. Your always welcome, as everyone has already said. Look forward to the first weekend!

Re: Threemuch Repower
It's not the coasties that would concerne me. They would never know the difference. Thats simply a recomendation anyway. If you were to build a boat yourself, like Edsr did, you would have no CG rating.
What I would be concerned about is whether or not I felt the boat could handle the extra HP and if it would null and void my insurance coverage due to that rating.
Pop says the motor is a 1998 and yes it is a hell of a good price considering the low hours on it.
I'm going to list it for him on the Boat and Tackle page. If it were me I wouldn't sell it. I like the POWER He only uses 2/3 of it! It doesn't have the economy of the 130 Honda but He'll never recoup the 7K difference through fuel savings.

Re: Threemuch Repower
I understand Kurt. There are always unexpected costs in a refit. I don't know if it would work without the refit either because it is mounted on an offshore bracket on his boat. Shaft may be to short for a transom mount application.

Re: Threemuch Repower
I would love to buy that 98 200, but right now I am a little short of $5K, and I figure another 2K to refit my boat for a new outboard.

Re: Threemuch Repower
Hmmm... I just found out a guy I know is selling a 200hp Suzuki. It was on a 19 maxweld he bought and the boat would do over 50 mph!
He swapped it off for a 125 he had put on another older boat he still has and is selling the 200 on consignment somewhere. If any of you are interested I'll get some more info on it.

Drat! Insurance won't cover me if I go over the boat rating! Anyone got a 150-175 hp?

Re: Threemuch Repower
I talked to him this morning. The Susuki 200 is a '91, it runs real good and he wants $3800. It was just more power than he needed or wanted and he had the 125 anyway!

Re: Threemuch Repower
Rod, It might be time for a new insurance company.
My sled was rated for 75 hp (as most sleds are I think). I had a 150 on it and had insurance offered from several companies. Most people power their sled with at least a 200 and have no problem going over ratings when getting insurance.
The only issue I can see is your gas consumption being higher on the 200. Might make a difference in your range.
If you don't misrepresent your boat and power and they take your premium, you're insured. I'd get a quote for insurance from other companies and simply list the motor as a 200 and see what you get. My bet is you'll find plenty of insurers ready to take your money.
