Newbie,

Both the Blitz and USIA are ifish sponser charters. Go to the Charters link on the ifish home page, and give them a call.

Peace, Tom

If you're hailing from Seattle, you might want to go due west. I left WA a few years ago and am not on top of the latest regs, but Neah Bay always had lots of boats going offshore and the Seiku area. Port Angeles has pretty good fishing too, though it's a little more fickle and you must hit the tides right...They'll be fishing most of summer so you'll have a better chance of reserving a good boat trip.

What I really need is an adventure for the summer. If halibut is an early spring fling, whats good for the summer? (Besides Salmon, duh!)

Call Gene at Tackle Time- info on front page- he's an Ifish Sponser. Nice big 45 foot delta, out of Warrenton, completely dedone last year (new everything, well almost... the skippers not exactly "new"! ).

There's some others too. Check the main page under "charters". Kinda depends on where you want to go out of.

Good input, Mel.

I think you might be on the late show, Newbie, They have been taking reservations for over a month now.

Try the Blitz out of Newport, or, USIA Adventure Charters. Capt'n Mike and KJ are both fish catching machines, and know the waters well.

GOOD LUCK!!

peace, Tom

Newbie, trust me when I tell you this not knocking our oregon fishing. try these folks I fish with them every year out of Neah Bay.
Alaska Far West, Boat Gunslinger Skipper Tony Phillips he is a great skipper that doesn't jsut believe in getting one Halibut and then coming home he wants you to have a cooler full of fish.
Meaning Halibut, lings, and sea bass. They are a top notch organization.

360-645-3222
Contact me if you want to join along with us on May 1st. We still have a spot or two left on our boat if you want to take along (Charter that is)

I think that they are getting $150 give or take $20 bucks.

Newbie- I suggest you use the search function. Go to the 2001 archives and type in "tuna". In a couple months when you get done reading all the info there  it will be time to start reading the new posts coming up for this year!

Tuna looks to be right in my area of reason. Westport and Ilwaco seem to be the main to-dos, anybody have a favorite out there?

Newb, don't give up on Halibut just yet. Halibut is a spring thing in Oregon, but unless they've changed things in Washington in the past few years, Hali season should run into early august in area 6 (Port Angeles area).

I'd say something like this...Halibut in June and July, then Tuna in August and September!!!

Wahooooooooo!!!!!!

Newbie, tuna fishing starts as early as mid july or earlier. I caught my first batch last year only 17 miles from the north jetting of Newport in early July. That was unusual, but you never know. I'd say that mid July is a good time to be checking it out. We are lucking out of Newport because we seem to always have the fish fairly close and always in the same areas. Whereas further north, it depends on the currents and winds to push the fish in close. I'm not trying to persuade you one way or the other, just giving you some info. The best thing to do is keep in touch with a charter office that will give you the TRUE skinny on Albacore catches. Try Newport Tradewinds, South Beach Marina STore Charters or just watch the website, theblitz.net and we will keep you informed.

Mike,
When do you usually start your trips? Is it dependant on the commercial reports? Just curious. I am hoping to start looking the last week in June or so....I am an optimist and I need something to do after catching my salmon early. How about the rest of you, when do you look to start?
