Porpoise video -
Went out with GreenButtSkunk out of Garibaldi Friday for some Tuna action. On the way in we were entertained by a school of porpoise. The school seemed to be a mix of 2 or 3 different kinds of porpoise. This video shows two of them. We couldn't figure out what the dark ones with no dorsal fin were. I did an internet search but can't really find anything that described them, or at least anything that should be swimming in our waters. Video quality isn't that great as we were in 1 and 3 ocean conditions (tongue in cheek).
Make sure you choose the "watch in high quality" Option located just under the number of "views".

Re: Porpoise video -
Looks like common dolphin and northern rightwhale dolphin (with no dorsal fin). Porpoise are generally shy and solitary or in small pods. Nice video!

Re: Porpoise video -
You guys are right, they probably are right whale dolphins however I didn't see any white marking on them. Occording to wikepedia, they usually avoid boats so I guess we got a nice treat.

Re: Porpoise video -
Great job on the video! Brad, sorry I couldn't join you guys!
As for those 'other' dolphins, I believe they're dahl porpoises?... the black and white with no dorsal.
Here is a video I took of some of the same kinds of critters. Both dolphins AND porpoises. I was told by many people that they were dahls... ?

Re: Porpoise video -
spencer,
yep, northern right whale dolphin, dall's porpoise, and pacific white-sides. When the jumper up vertically I saw distinctive white patches on the chest.
I've never seen all three together like that. What a treat!!!!
Thanks for shooting the video. I wish we had the part where the rights were jumping out and landing vertically tail first into the water. cool stuff!
