It means we will have to wade through admiring throngs of salmon fishers holding 5 lb salmon to get to the cleaning station and process our boat-load-a of 20 to 30 lb albacore.

And of course I can harass the fish checker and ask if it is ok to have 14 adipose fins on a fish. The guys head about did a Linda Blair ala 'The Exorcist' imitation. That is until he saw with wide eyed amazement the pile of fish in the boat that I bagged with the excellent assistance of my mate.

That's the way it was on 7/7/02 when we bagged 64 fish for 2 boats. At 0130 when we quit filetting, the salmon guys were nowhere to be found.

Course- If you leave the dock at 4 am you don't have to worry about those throngs. Cept for those little putput boats I run over in the channel in front of Hammond. What are those guys doing out there in the dark with no lights anyway? They are good for scraping the barnicles of the bottom of your hull though.

give that man a double (hook up) Can't wait.
With a new son being born in july, I may not see the ocean much. The wife says I can't take a newborn out salmon fishing, go figure.

Hmmm...Invasion of the Coho Snatchers huh? That's one advantage of NOT having a trailer boat. At least I don't have to fight the crowd until I get to the river!

I dunno if it's softer, but it gives Tuni a backache! It's not your posturepedic.

I sure don't miss the boat ramps though and not having to drive home after a Long day on the water is really nice.
It is a drag that I can't just pick up and run down 101 and be to Newport in 3 hours and 1/2 a truck tank of gas though. :depressed:

Any of you keep your boat for a week or two at a time in Newport? How is the electrolysis there? Us tin boaters fear that hungry electricity! I was thinking of launching a day before and then leaving it for a bit...until tuna time starts anyway...then trailer to Depo when the ocean is friendly. Whatsyathink?

WP,

I leave my boat at South Beach for up to six weeks at a time -- the electrolysis problem last year for me, and I stress for me, was really minor as compared to other years (I'm a glass guy) -- my friend runs a Koffler and he seemed to have less of an issue last year as well....anyway, it's a great time, you get to know a lot of the other people. A lot of refreshments are consumed, especially, um, on "C" dock!

I load it up when the tuna are close and just haul it up to Depoe.

HEY PILAR,

Couldn't you use those 5 lb Coho as bait for Bill (HA, HA)?

Good times ahead!!

It wont be long before I'm scrubbing coho scales off of the boat!

I talked to the Harbor master at Depoe Bay, he said that mooring fees were $174 month, $10 a night and they have never been filled up, but with this good of a year predicted, you never know!

andycoho - did you see fishassassin's post about the reduction in number of slips in Depoe bay this year (they're remodeling). Better get one reserved. Lot's of Salty's talking about slipping there too! SOmething about having a TUNA addiction. I'm not sure what that means but anyway- better get that slip reserved!

Miss B: we slept at the ramp. We opened our eyes on what should have been a peaceful summer morning only to see an army of trucks and boats and headlights everywhere... it was strange, until we remembered it was the Coho opener. The line went all the way up the hill to 101 by 4:30am
