Default The freindly folks at Depoe Bay ...

How cool!! I got a call today from the Trade Winds charter office (Judy).
She told me that Tommy (one of the charter skippers for Trade Winds) was
headed out on a charter today and noticed what appeared to be a crab rope
floating behind my boat. They searched up my phone number at work and gave me
a call so I would be aware that I might have a problem and that I should
check on it before I started the boat!!

I mean, how cool is *that*?? To take the time to find me out of their
busy schedules and then give me a call?? What a NICE bunch of folks!
Darrel on the Kadaho was there at the office and said he was going to go
back down to the boat to see what he could see! Wow!! That's all I can
say ... WOW!!! ... And *THANKS* guys!!

Good on Tradewinds for giving you the warning.
Good on you for spreading the news of their kindness.

Assassin,
I have always enjoyed Depoe Bay. Are you going out in the Fleet of Flowers this year? I attended the cermony last year in the rain and listened to all the speeches. The people around that Bay are great and friendly to boot. That turnout for the Fleet of Flowers is something all Salty Dogs should consider attending. Seeing all those people lined up on the bridge and down at the port is really something. Those people at Depoe Bay work hard and are fun to be around.

I'm sure if my wife has anything to say about it "Pacific Mistress" will be
one of the boats that goes out for the Fleet of Flowers again this year. We
lost my dad to the ocean either '78 or '79 (have to ask Theresa ... her memory
works better than mine! ) so we have always either done the "Blessing of
the Fleet" at Pacific City or (starting last year) The Fleet of Flowers as a
fitting tribute to a man that taught us to fish. I gotta agree with you, it's
pretty impressive and a bit scary! Last year the ocean was up *BIG* time by
the time the fleet left port. I was feeling kind of nervous being responsible
for the 9 adults and 3 kids that went out with me to drop flowers!!

By all means, if anybody can make it for the Fleet of Flowers at Depoe Bay,
you should!! (IMHO)

Assassin,
Yup, I saw the boats last year going out in the rain, mist, fog plus seas looked intimidating. My wife and I watched as Ron Wyden was on the Coast Guard patrol boat. Man was it raining. That poor guy was in just a suit with a coast guard preserver on. I would have thought at least somebody on board would have given him a raincoat. I'll be there for sure again this year. Didn't know about your Dad but will think of him for sure on that day. For the Salty's who have never gone to this event, MARK IT ON YOUR EVENTS TO DO LIST. A guy last year gave a demo on ocean going Kyaks in the bay, Coast Guard gave tours of the Patrol boat and seeing all those boats with the wreaths and flowers, something all Oregonians should see.
