He may just be trying out his vocal chords, or it may have something to do with the weather change. It seems to be getting cooler up on the hill. Seem elk last night but nothing tonight, not even a stinkin deer.

The elk were bugling at the coast last weekend. If it's early it's not by much. I really think it depends on the weather, some years it's early, some it's late.

I have had bulls bugle spring turkey season, the thing is....you make esterus sounds...what else are they gonna think! Doesnt have anything do to with weather or location, if you can immitate the excited esterus noises...the bulls will answer

Bulls bugle all year long, or they can. It's the cows' odor, and if they're ready to be bred at the right time of the year, that make the occurances spike!
Kinda like us guys in a way!

Has the 5x5 shed his velvet yet?

Re: watched a bull bugle, isnt it early??
A little known fact; cows bugle very often too. It sounds very similar to a young spike, but instead of starting off low going to a high note they start off high, stay there and drop off low quickly. That is a great call to throw in after you have done an estrus set and had no action. Sometimes a bull will hear that and come running in. I think it is a sound of desperation for the cow that wants to breed NOW!

Very true, I call it an esterus scream...I have used it to call in bulls before....also its common to hear bulls mew in the heard talk...you have to listen for the deep sounding mew..but they do it

Bulls bugle all year long as stated above, most of the time it is a younger bull though. Those elk you hunt start bugling early so it is not surprising to hear them already. Opening morning last year they were vocal. I am sure you will have some nice animals scouted by opening morning Jacob.
