Newbie on the water
Hey gang,
I was recently introduced to your discussion board, and can safely say I am giddy as a kid w/his first fishin pole. I've been pulling my hair out trying to gather information on Ocean Fishing from friends, boatshops, gear shops, experience(usually the most painful), etc...what a slow process. I'm not too proud to say, I don't feel I know nearly as much about ocean fishing (and boating) as I'd like to, thus, I'll likely be pestering you all w/newbie type questions, as I'm just starting to venture onto "Big Blue". I recently bought a 20' Wooldridge Sport 2000 w/offshore bracket. It has a 115hp Honda w/a 9hp kicker, GPS and VHF. I've had it out (Charleston) a few times and it seems to handle things really well (I've yet to catch a calm day). Is this boat capable of venturing out for tuna? (with a flotilla of other boats, of course)

Re: Newbie on the water
Welcome aboard!
Sounds like we have another tunaholic! I am not familiar with your boat but it sounds capable, if equiped for safety (redundency and equiped.) There is a ton of information in the archieves and most of the Salty Dogs are more than willing to help or answer questions. I am not sure how many dogs are tuna fishing out of Coos Bay. Most are out of Newport/Depo bay, or the Columbia. Enjoy and join us all in getting ready for TunaTime.

Re: Newbie on the water
Welcome!
That is what this board is for BananaBoat. As WP said, if you use the search button located on the bar above you'll find tons, and tons, and tons of information regarding almost anything you can come up with. Because we are only in the 4th month of this year, if you don't find what you're looking for change the Search criteria to "Ifish Archives 2002" or "Ifish Archives 2001".
As far as tuna fishing goes, and any ocean trips for that matter, it's all about picking your battles. There are days when you could take a drift boat out to Tuna Town, but then there's also the other end of the spectrum. Be safe and try to have companion boats with you.
Welcome to the Tunaholics Anonymous club!

Re: Newbie on the water
I live in Coquille Lep and yes, I got my boat from Coos Bay Marine. It was the yellow one sitting there last fall. I really like the Offshore Bracket on it. For better or worse, it sure seems to break up those waves that want to come over the back when I'm bucking the wind and current. I haven't taken in out of Bandon yet, that bar challenges my fortitude. I hear there's some pretty good bottom fishing out there a ways though. Maybe when things get calmed down....
Fishing story on the way......hmmmmmmm

BananaBoat:
Welcome! Probably scare a bunch of these guys with a name like that, but in reading your posts, it sounds like your boat is yellow... so I take it this is where your name comes from?

Re: Newbie on the water
Yep, it's yellow. I guess I didn't give the name as much consideration as I should have. d'OH!
But hey, it's the boat's name, NOT MINE!

Re: Newbie on the water
Welcome aboard BB. Your boat will work fine on the good days and there is plenty of those to fish in August. The Honda motor is Sweeet! Fuel is the key for Tuna. You need to to try to attend a Tunaholics meeting. Check out the next one here. web page
