Default How about a clinic?

Any Salty Dogs interested in getting together and producing some halibut and tuna rigs? I would be willing to buy supplies in advance, and then figure out a cost per rig or something like that. I would need someone to help me get a shopping list together, and I would take it from there.

We could do it at Santanas as it seems that we are the only ones there early in the evening, or figure out another spot.

Of course, it would be helpful to have somebody come that knows what the heck their doing!

Think about it, a cool evening sittin around tying up fishing gear, havin a few cold ones...Any takers  ????

I'm in. I think Santanas is the place because we can have the whole place to ourselves and we can join as many tables together as we need to work on.

I'm open for days but Hali season is getting close so we'd better hurry.

Jen, are you ready for some tackle tying lessons? Maybe we can get Baitboy to teach us all. If you have not seen him in action, you have really missed something. That guy is amazing.

Fantastic response guys and gal  !!!

Firday's the best?? We have the 8th, 11th, 25th and the 2nd before FB fishing begins.

I am accumulating a few detail questions on the material needed, and will forward them to the experts on the board. Any other suggestions on materials would be appreciated (if there is any thing else we'll need). Also, I would like to make some tuna teasers as well....

Let me know on the dates This is going to be fun!

Pete, I saw the title to this thread and thought you might be needing a penicillin shot or something.

Still working on the tri-clops tuna feathers, having problems adding a hoochie. But still kicking it around.

The halibut derby fishery is only a month away.

I'm so glad I took the time to work on my boat this winter instead of wasting that time on non biting river salmon.

Kurt, I was kust cruising through their web page I found searching for tackle. Need some input on colors, and does anyone know how heavy those barrel weights are on the daisy chain?

Oh ya, colors on Tuna feathers as well. Found them unrigged for $5.50 b4 shipping.

I would buy the unrigged and make the daisy chain yourself.

Colorwise, you know the best tuna colors. Zuchinni, mexican flag, purple and black.

Halibut, anything that glows. I am an alligator and an army truck kind of guy.

Trying for the 18th. Can we get a roll call going?

Also, if you can give me an idea of what you might like to make, ie 3 FB rigs, two tuna feathers and two teasers, for example. That way I can know about what to buy.

You can email the info to me at petem@patlbr.com .

I got all the gear I need, but I would be willing to come and lend expertise, and bring my gear for examples.

Shopping List:

Mono Leader material and matching crimps, 200 pound test for hand lines, 80 for rod and reel.

Tuna hooks and feathers.

170 pound coated wire and crimps from american fishing wire for halibut rigs.

16/0-20/0 Circle hooks

Hoochies, the bigger the better (optional)

Barrel Swivels, 300 pound test.

Crimpers.

Great Skein, as far as what to bring, I was initially going to bring everything and let people buy what they need, or set them up in "kits".

It may be a challenge to get it cooridinated with what everyone wants to make though (Corrirod has some experience here  ). The Halibut rigs are pretty easy, so I may buy that stuff up front, and leave tuna gear up to individuals.... Either way, I need to get it figured out soon so I can receive material in time.

How would this work for everyone...Need some feedback please....

As far as a date, looking like the 18th?

18th from when to when? I'll make the reservations as this will probably be a big one and they'll want to bring in some extra staff. I'll see if he has any suggestions as to the best way to get everyone their meals in a timely manner. Perhaps a pre-order on the meals or some type of buffet setup? I don't know, but I'll check. And of course, happy hour drink prices all night!

PeterMac, you may want to check out Ebay as well for the Tyee rigs... they often have many of their large hootchies listed for bidding. I have picked up several - 3 rigged ones for $10.

I can bring some samples to the meeting to show you what they look like. Some glow, some don't.

Rod - How about we say 7-9pm? Folks can show up earlier, but if he's gonna do a buffet, I'd say 7ish would be good timing. But I'd hate for Rafael to do a big buffet for us, only to have the ocean flatten out and we all bail for the coast. Can he deal with having 24 hrs notice?

Yeah PM, that was my worry too. I think it might be better if we picked a few menu items that he could stock up on and have ready and then give him a head count a couple days prior. I'd sure hate to leave him hanging though so either we need everyone to make the committment or we just have to understand that food service may be a little slow.

Maybe we just have him do a nacho bar? That shouldn't be too bad...

Well, this fledgling pup would like to attend. Don't know if I will make any rigs but would like to meet all of you and at least watch how its done.
Count me in.

I made reservations at Santana's for us. I'll take a head count mid-week to be accurate.

I just purchased some immersion suits, if anyone is interested in seeing one I can bring it to the meeting.

The way the ocean is shaping up I'll probably be heading to the beach after the meeting or early the next morning.

I am planning on being there on the 18th and a for sure time. All I need is an address as to where this event is going to be. Look forward meeting the salty crowd.

I am really looking forward to the event at Santanas  . I will have supplies to tie up several different rigs for halibut and tuna, but since nobody got back too me with what they wanted to produce , I just bought a bit-o-this and that, but not the well stocked store I had originally envisioned.

Should be fun and educational for the rookies in the group(like me).

See you then!
