Wooohooo - eats 6 foot long fish for dinner! I love this part:
"This is a very aggressive animal and moves quickly. If you fell in the water next to it you would be in big trouble," said Bolstad.

I guess I won't be swimming next trip to the South Pole! :depressed:

I like the naming nomenclature. First you have your "giant" squid. Then, "wow we found one bigger. Let's name it 'colossal' squid." What will they name the next biggest one? The super-duper, mega Pilar squid?

Hey if you could get one of these live, you could use it to "fetch" halibut. No more waiting for the fish to come to your bait...

Imagine the battles that go on under the hundreds of fathoms of water. In the black depths ... Collosal squid Vs. Moby Dick.

Most of the worlds oceans are unexplored .. who knows what lurks there.

Remeber the ceolacanth? Extinct for millions of years ... until an icthyologist spotted one on a fish cart in a south african fish market.

How are you supposed to fall into the water at several hundred feet, where these squid live. The pressure would kill you long before the squid.

Fish_N_Russ- Ha you didn't read the article real close now did you? They caught this one at (OK - near the surface.
I'm figuring it's toxic waste, global warming, buring oil fields and Pilars fish waste in the Ocean!
Them things are getting bigger, meaner and moving to the surface. Next thing you know they'll be crawling up on the beach and invading downtown CornValley!

<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helv">Mark- you going to try to take a halibut away from one of these ?

"Its eight arms and two tentacles have up to 25 teeth-like hooks -- deeply rooted into muscle and able to rotate 360 degrees -- as well as the usual suckers to ensure fish do not escape."

Sounds like you could make a lot of Harpoon tips out of one of these things!

They might have 'caught' it near the surface but I would suspect it was floating around dead and not alive at that depth

They could rename the Giant squid the Explorer, then call the Colossal squid the Expedition, and still have room for a bigger one called the Excursion!!!

Next they "supersize it" to Super Collosal Squid :depressed: --then it's Stupendous Squid , and finally the "Holy Mary Mother of God Squid" --which I pray they don't discover anytime soon.
