Default Any Salty Dogs got a line on ...

Have any of you got a line on a 3' x 3' piece of 1/2" thick plexy glass??
I need it to mount my Isolation Transformer and am having a tough time
finding what I need.

Thanks

Thanks Popeye, One of the guys on the "for sale" board just pointed me
to a place called Port Plastics. I'm scheduled to go pick up what I need
Monday afternoon.

Thanks again for the offer.

FA - Let me suggesta few things. Multi-craft Plastics in PDX has several products which could be used. 3'x3'x1/2" - Clear Lexan @ $160.00
" Industrial Micarta @ $356.27
The Industrial Micarta is the traditional material around electrical applications, but as you can see it is very expensive.

West Marine, Englund, and other suppliers carry a product called "Starrboard",(sp), which is very durable even in marine applications. Unfortunately it is also very expensive.

Let me suggest that you take a piece of MDO, or Marine Plywood and then glass one or two sides if you think you need the strength. MDO is a very good grade of plywood that is covered with brown paper and impregnated with, I think, a phenolic solution. It is used for road signs and if the edges are sealed it weathers very well. It is not Marine grade, which has no hidden voids and is the best ply available but it should more than fill the bill. You probably know all this. Anyway a 4'x8' sheet of 1/2" MDO is about $50.00. The fiberglass and epoxy would add to the cost but it is still way below the plastics. Be sure to use epoxy not polyester and paint the epoxy after it dries. Wash it well with soap and water before you paint to remove the amine blush.

Are there any boat builders in your area? This would be a piece of cake for them and probably the cheapest route since they might have s***** big enough to handle this small job?

What was the material this panel was mounted on?

Hope this helps

Edsr:

Looks like you can't win with the profanity filter!

I actually found a 3x3 piece of plexy glass 1/2" thick in Tigard for
$61. The guy that is doing the installation wanted to put it ISO
converter on the plexy 'cause it would "look better". OK. I'm good
with that. *I* really don't care, since the plan is to mount it to the
floor under the Captains seat (out of view) anyway, but I've learned
it never pays to argue with the installer!

Thanks again for your suggestions ...

FA - Glad to hear your problem is solved. Plexi should work just fine. The Lexan is more shatter resistant.
