Default GPS numbers

Hey all. I was wondering if anyone would mind giving me some GPS numbers around Newport. I had some but lost them some how. I think it was the "clear memory" button that caused all the problems. So If anyone could help me out that would great.

Looking to try Newport this weekend weather permitting. I have the numbers for the north end and south end of the rock pile but that is a little far out for my 18 footer. I am looking for some spots a little closer in.

So any help would be grand.

Oh, If anyone else is going to be there let me know.

Thanks,

f-p

Fisher Price, I know this will sound flip but you do not need numbers to fish Newport nearshore.

Just drive to the 2nd bouy off the jetties and drift south. Watch your depthfinder and you will be amazed at the rapid depth changes as you glide over pinnacles and reefs. Just about any depth change or pinnacle will attract and hold bottom fish. Actually you will see the fish suspended above the structure on the bottom.

Finding them does not mean catching them. I often have to run and gun. Go to a spot, try it and move on if the fish are not biting. Usually biters can be found pretty quickly. If you find a good spot with many hookups or doubles, mark it as a waypoint. You can come back later and they may bite again that day ... or maybe not.

This goes on all the way to seal rock, about 6 miles.

Well it doesn't sound flip at all. So thanks again for your help. I really appreciate the advise and infromation that I get from this site.

Have you heard anything about the salmon fishing on the coast so far? I had a friend that went to Newport this weekend. Lots of bottom fish, a few lings but only one salmon. Well maybe later in the year.

fp I was over bottomfishing rocks and lings towards seal rock Sunday. Adding to pilar's excellent advice, I found biteing fish were besides structure. hot ticket was red wing salmon flies with a circle hooked trolling sinker on bottom. If the action slowed down, adding bait(shrimp) to the flys, got results. I move when i hit a school of small rocs leaving them to the charters. I tried but no salmon after bottomfish limit. Fish checker at dock said 0 salmon thru mid afternoon.
If you need general gps no., download map cord.from maptech to give starting points.

Wow Thanks for the info.
Hay when you say rapid depth changes,
What kind of numbers are we looking at?
And how mutch weight to stay on the bottom.

It's been a while for me and I am not shure of how heavy of tackle im looking at.

Walleyed, it varies. The bottom will be say 80 ft and come up quickly to 35 for instance. Soon it goes back down to 80 or 90. You just drifted over a pinnacle.

Think of the only tree in a big field. Where will all the birds be sitting?

Any change in depth of more than 10 ft is structure and fish will hang around it.

The amount of weight varies with the drift speed and depth. Bring a selection of jig heads. 4, 6, 8, 12 and different size tails. You can use 1, 1-1/2, 2 oz jigs off the bank or in very shallow spots.

Shrimp fly rigs use a round sinker at the bottom and stock sizes from 3 oz to 24 oz. The deeper you go the more lead you need. You have to use enough so that the line does not trail far behind the boat. As that angle gets bigger from vertical you have a greater risk of hanging up.

Better to use a heavy rig and fish right under the boat.
