Default Charleston report (Nice ocean)

Looks like the ocean laid down a bit this weekend for our first real shot at some early chinook.

Mark and Richard and the boys at England marine put on a very successful SC sportsman/seminar on Sat. It was well attended, and the speakers were wonderful.

I spoke to a few buddies that fished this morning out of Charleston and the talk on the radio was about a trawler who landed a 55 pounder at 40 fathoms.

The fish checker only checked a few fish from sport boats this weekend...
Bottom fishing has been outstanding though....

Anyother reports?

Hey, you should've said hi!! It was sporting my ifish apparel. I went very well from my vantage point also. Everyone was happy with the outcome and hopefully answered a lot of questions. I got a chance to ride on the Stabi-Craft boat that was there after the seminar and it was a real eye opening for an aluminum boat. There was a good chop on the bar from the hard outgoing tide and we did 30 mph over it with ease and didn't loose any fillings on my teeth in the process. There were two coast guard guys on board also and there eyes were wide open and the only words were "we have to get one of these for sure!" I talked with Dan Lomax about the boat in length afterwards and hopefully people will ride along with him and see what it can really do. He's also here on Ifish.

As of the fishing we headed south this morning and got three limits of bottomfish and had a nice mix of all kinds of species. Kinda makes a guy nervous from the limitations of certain species these days. I'm going to invest in a fish chart that's for sure. But a few salmon were caught but the big one is news to me. That's a hog this early in the season. Pretty slow for the most part on salmon overall.

Anyhow, that's my report.

Almost forgot one other report. Four guys were in a 15' gregor style boat fishing bastendorf reef and capsized the boat. They didn't have radio's or anything. Luckily someone else was fishing the reef and managed to pick them out of the water.

yes I am a big guy!... You should have said something... I guess I didn't see the fish gear or I would have!

Yes,
I actually saw them fishing in the reef on the south side of the bay mid afternoon, and the bar was getting rough on the outgoing.. A friend (he owns the basindorf RV park) and I saw them out there and wondered what they were going to do??? We even went up to the CG tower but they had them spotted by then.. no radio of course... sounds like everyone is ok?
