?? Wak Craft??????
I may have lost my mind BUT....I have been looking at new boats.....The Sea Sport 24XL has caught my eye, but there is a 26 footer that is calling my name also.
My question is....who is a good local dealer that the friends like?
Any thoughts on the engine options???
Marty....If you were looking for a sister ship what would you do?
Thanks

Re: ?? Wak Craft??????
I have looked at the Sea Sports myself. (insert english accent) Dreamy Baby!!!
I was looking for the ultimate long range boat. That said....the deisel power plant was what I was looking for. Very hard to find used!
MasterBaiter got lucky and found one. Might check with him and see how he likes it.
Check out this boat Osprey.
The seating arraingement of the Expedition model is more conducive to what I want. No waisted room with galley and table. I plan to fish from my boat - not camp in it.
If my sled would sell this is the boat I would buy. Too late for me to order an EdWing and be able to fish it much this year.
Besides, $28,000 is a great buy on this boat.
Sure hope my sled doesn't sell tomorrow and then find out you bought the Osprey.

Re: ?? Wak Craft??????
It's called Aqua-vehiclaholism.
My sister, when she heard I had ordered a new boat - before I finished putting in my wife's kitchen cabinets - identified the addiction and wrote the following:
The first step is to admit that you are powerless over your aquavehiclaholism... that your need to own boats has become unmanageable.
Then you must come to believe that a power greater than yourself (such as the lack of marital relations) can restore you.
Now you must make a decision to turn yourself and your life over to the will and care of God ( 'cause only He can save you from a woman who must use a tuna boat for a kitchen cabinet).
Wow, if Janis hasn't killed you in your sleep by the time you get these things done, you can probably skip the other nine steps...
So cautiously... congratulations on the boat.
If the need is there, I can ask her to send the other nine steps....

Re: ?? Wak Craft??????
Hey Skein, yea I like that diagnosis for "Aqua-vehiclaholism". There are probably some other symptoms to add, like the willingness to buy another boat before selling the first one (Popeye has that one real bad). I started a big re-model of my 22 ft glass dory 2 years ago and haven't finished yet (got in a little over my head). So I started making noise about just buying the big boat. My wife was actually very supportive, with the one condition that I sell the dory first. When she got to the condition part, a certain look came over her face (you know, that real serious one that says between the lines "or else...").

Re: ?? Wak Craft??????
I also have a touch of this illness.
Last summer, at one time, i had three boats.
I would not advise this as a viable strategy. But, if you almost die, and scare the crap out of your wife, it seemed to have a very positive effect on her . She was glad to let me get a new boat. And i actually herd her defending my addiction. "It has brought him back to life", ,, "Im seeing signs of the old chris again" ....
So, dont underestimate the power of a new boat.... id. p.

Re: ?? Wak Craft??????
Hey Wak, don't forget about your friendly neighborhood ORCA also. I love my diesel thus far and would not go any other way! Not sure what you price range is but if you looking at new 24-26 you must be flexible since they begin at $50K. I think a nice used boat is a good bang for buck because they come with alot of rigging already and there are some really good deals for gas powered. You have to be patient for used diesel power, took me a good year to find mine for good deal. Check this out:

Other excellent brands would be Farallon and Davis but having the builder close by is nice too.
Hey Fishplay, my buddy was just looking to buy that Osprey, it is fine unit. He is pretty much set on Seasport just like mine but gas powered and the aft steering station (wish I had this). So looks like we are making a run up to WA this weekend to bring it home.

Re: ?? Wak Craft??????
I was looking at Orcas also...."Here is the deal"
My evil twin is thinking about creating something called Wak'm Charter and Bait.....I think that should about cover my whole life. The idea is not to charge people to go fishing, but think of the other benefits. I am checking into Classes and insurance now.
I have no intentions of making money, just reclaiming gas money. It may take awhile.
I just bought a 22 ft Striper last year, but I sure like some of the 26 footers.

Re: ?? Wak Craft??????
My understanding is, C Dory bought the molds from Skagit Orca/Olympic Boats. The new C Dory 25' Cruiser looks decent.
Base Price is $46,900. That includes the motor, battery, & trailer.
C Dory
Pretty good price if the quality is similar to the Skagit. Sure looks comfy and sea worthy.

Re: ?? Wak Craft??????
Wak'em, For what I want to do I really like my Seasport and presently would not exchange it for anything on the market, except for a 27 footer. I would love to have the diesel option, but the extra cost is a huge jump and for the amount of hours that I put in, gas is the best option. If you would like to take a tour in my boat and run it around in the harbor or take it outside (if it gets below 15 foot), just let me know. I need to get a few hours on the boat anyway. Would love to just sit and drink beers and talk boats.......I researched for a couple of years and I would spill my guts for a pint of good ale.
I like your charter thinking.

Re: ?? Wak Craft??????
Aunty M,
I was just looking at the C-Dory site, it looks as though that price is just for the hull, not including motors, trailer, batteries. Is that right or am I just not reading it right?
Towards the top of the pricing page is says these are MSRP for the boat and the dealers will supply the trailer, motors, and batteries, and to call them for complete package pricing.
Yikes!!!! Tack on the price of two new Honda 70's and it goes up real quick!

Re: ?? Wak Craft??????
I had not heard that C-Dory bought Orca/Olympic!
My suggestion would be to go and register at Boat trader and set up some searches for certain brands within your size range. The site will e-mail you daily with any new hits that match your search criteria. It maxes out at 200 hits so it is best to set up a separate search per make. You will see alot of good deals on 24-27 footers (new and used) over time. Then just watch, wait, and get a feel for the market until you find THE ONE! Then ponce on it before someone else does...
Happy Hunting!
