Default S. Coast Halibut

I wanted to remind people that live in the southern end of the state and I'm going to be headed from either charleston or Port Orford for the halibut trips this May if people want to tag a long. I'm going to try and make the opener on the 8th and then again on the weekend. Limits are pretty easy when you get there. It's merely a weather watching deal. But for those out there that don't know where to go everyone is welcome to come. I'm not sure if I'll have space in my boat yet, depends on the weather and which one I take. If I take my sled I might have a seat or two but if I take my dad's 27' bayliner I may have to take a couple of his buddies also. But I'll shout out an invitation before hand if it happens. Anyhoo, let me know or if you're at the fishing show on the 29th in Charleston stop by and say hi.

TC-
I'd like to tag along in my 19'sled (weather permitting)if thats alright. The 10th for sure, maybe the 8th or 9th if that looks like the best hole in the weather. I've never fished for Hali's in deeper water. How deep is it? What kind of a lead inventory do you recommend? Thanks.

Not a problem, most of the fishing will be around 400' with 12-20oz of lead depending on the current. Weather is going to be the biggest factor on days so about a week before I'll have a good idea where and when it's going to happen. So email me about a week and a half before or if you need any more info, email me before that.

I have all six days penciled in on my calendar. Now it's just up to the weather. Charleston or Port Orford both work for me. What time does the boat sling open at PO?

I may have a seat or two open on the weekdays, I'll keep everyone posted.

TC, isn't there a long Hali season south of Humbug? Is the fishing any good down there?

Wanted, old wiggle-warts : )

The boat sling opens well before daylight. I'm thinking about 4:30 or 5. Depending on how many people make the trip will show how early we need to be there. Typically you can get your boat in there within 15 min. or so if you're ready.

The area west of Humbug is open 24-7 for all depth fishing all year. I'm going to have to check my charts but it should definitely be possible to pick a few from there. I haven't tried it but I have a couple of spots where friends have and caught fish. But it would definitely be something to explore a little more. Could be a gold mine. Here in a couple of weeks we should be able to get an idea of what's coming our way and decide on a port.
