Default HELP Halibut Season Crew Rosters on Sea Lion HELP

O.K. Boys and girls, it's time to put together plans and get ready for the rodeo.
I don't like waiting till the last minute to put things together so I am starting now.
I have had the pleasure to fish with a few great captains and fellow crew members in the past and will offer first dibs to those who have already offered me the same courtesy.

I have room for 2 people besides myself and maybe my son each day.

Pilar, Capn’ Dan, Threemuch, Bait Boy, Drifty, BOE, Pick your days if you want a ride on my tub.

Others who have mentioned interest, Pilar’s Mate, Ragnar, Rain or Shine, Puffin’s Crew, 5 Cents, Hummingbird , and lots of others I can’t remember right this minute.

So far Pilar is certain to captain his own vessel but he has supreme bumping rights should the need arise. Drifty has spoken for Friday and Saturday both of the two opening weekends but is flexible should someone be desperate for a ride.

This will be a Common Adventure trip with ALL expenses incurred in said trip to be shared among the participants. No gear will be provided and I am not a charter nor do I want to be. Bring your own gear and necessities. Pack light as I do not have a ton of storage.

I am very much looking forward to this season. Keep in mind that I reserve the right not to go due to weather or for mechanical issues. I will NOT put my vessel or crew in peril for a fish, period.

On my boat there are 4 rules. I’ll make sure you know them before we get to the dock.

Who’s in?

Ray
I would be interested in a ride.

I could make it Saturday either the 10th or the 17th (if I got my dates right for the season)

If one of those dates are not available, I might be able to take a days vacation.

I havent chased the BFB for a couple years.

Ray, I'd love to go. As you said I have trips planned on 'Pilar' for most of the 6 days in May.

I have a date with my Mate on the second Saturday, so not that day. So pick any day but that one Ray, even the first Thursday and I'll schedule accordingly.

 I have my own gear and tackle  Hope your fishbox can accomodate 25+ square foot of Halibut.

Johnboy, what an honor. You are booked for DAY 1. I can think of no greater privillage than landing BFB on the decks with you my brother! Let's Make it so!

Here is my tentative Roster...
Pilar The Opener, May 8th.
Kurt, you are down for the 17th.
Roy, Saturday the 10th?
Drifty, 9th, 10th, 16th and 17th as plan A?
Captain Dan, the 15th, just in case your boat isn't quite finished?
Bait Boy, 8th and 15th?
If this works for all of you this will be plan A.

Anybody want to be on the last minute fill in roster? Gotta be ready to hit the beach on short notice in case of a cancellation?
Let me know quick...
As mentioned above this can and likely will change.

If you listen closely you can hear them screaming....

Death from above.... WE DELIVER!

Ok, Ray it's Thursday, May 8. Who's the 3rd wheel? Baitboy?

Would you dare to leave the beach without your baitboy?

Ray
thanks for the tentative booking.

I went back and looked up Pilars no excuse halibut rigging and the picture has been deleted :depressed: :depressed: :depressed: :depressed: I am gonna have to figure out how to put that system together.

I dont know how many yards of line my 320GTI holds but I dont think it is enough without checking. Is 600 feet of line required? Might have to go get a new reel for one of my rods I could use.

I might have to put together a shrimp pot for the trip. Hmmmm. 600 feet of 1/4 inch rope, an anchor puller that will hold 1/4 line, a shrimp pot, shrimp bait. I gotta get busy

Lo', you're on the stand by list.
Johnboy, Yes! You, Bait Boy and I for the opener
Roy, plenty of time to get outfitted and equiped. We can get together to tie up some rigs. I have the pattern down. I fish 6/0 reels out there but they may be overkill. This year I have some 4/0 reels I might try.
The Chicken Ranch is 750 to 850 feet.
Just over 300 yards straight down, then there is the hypotenuse (long side of the triangle) which is the line, i.e. more than 300 yards, plus the extra line that PO'D BFB will peel off your reel when he realizes his snack has a hook in it! .
My boat dosen't have a periscope so we can't chase down the fish to get your line back. Plan accordingly
I am pretty excited about this season.

Roy, I think more like 900' is required. 600 just for gettin' there and another 300 backup for the line bow due to drift. You could get by with much less for the pile but if they ocean lays down and the boat pushes on out to the ranch you'll be SOL (short on line  )

Roy,
You should be able to get 450 yards of 50 pound power pro on the 320. That'll fish.

Last time I went out, the boat captain had electric reels for the crew. Put the butt of the rod between your legs, lay the foregrip over the side of the boat and push the button on the reel. In a few minutes either the fish or rigging was back at the boat and I was still fresh and rested. It seemed to lack something but was pretty sweet at the same time.

Ray, I have Chicken Ranch waypoints from 480 to 650 ft. No need to fish any deeper than that because the gravel bars are on top of the seamount not off the sides. 300 yds is a minimum for a reel fill. I would go 400 or 500 if possible. If you break off a short spool, that reel is done. If you break off a 500 yd spool, you get to go again.

Besides, how the heck are you going to land bill with only 300yds of line.

Lo', I sent it.

Here is the Plan A Line up on Sea Lion

Thursday, May 8th
Ray, Pilar and Bait Boy

Friday, May 9th
Ray, Drifty and Bait Boy

Saturday, May 10th
Ray, Drifty and BOE

Thursday, May 15th
Ray, Bait Boy and Capin' Dan!

Friday, May 16th
Ray, Drifty and Bait Boy

Saturday, May 17th
Ray, Drifty and Threemuch

Standby List, Kruechief and ??? and ???

As my wise old Salt Pilar mentioned in his post this is completely weather dependant and history teaches us that we only get off the beach about 50% of the available days in this early season game so do what you have to now to please Mother Ocean and the Sea Gods or bring a comfortable chair to fish camp. I will be there to look at the bar regardless of the forecast, save for a very serious long enduring storm and with our collective worship and attendance at the Church of the Bent Rod that should not be an issue, I hope.

I'm not sure if I will drop crab pots this year or not. In years past it was rather hit and miss and with the wild card on the weather I may forego it for a shorter run time to the fishing grounds. What do you guys think?

Kruechief, Hummingbird and Wildhawg, I have one, two or three open seats for week 2.
Possibly 2 on Thursday the 15th and 1 on Friday the 16th. I'm not sure how to make this fair... Kruechief asked first followed by Hummingbird then by Wildhawg. Let's see who posts up first and tell me why you wanna go catch a Halibut?
As I may have 3 spots and there are three of you tell me if you have a preference of the slots available and lets firm up plans.
Yee Haw!
I won't know for sure it the spots are open till Monday or Tuesday of next week but it pays to be prepared.

Have a great time and letme know how you did. I am going out with the same guy as last year in Garibaldi. I'll let you know how we did. Thanks for your generousity. You are a great guy for offering . Mr. Fisherman,

I just found this post and would be very interested a Halibut trip. I have fished for Halibut one other time and have a rod/reel. Of course am willing to share expenses, clean-up detail or any other help I may be able to provide. I can go just about any day with a few days notice. If no open seats are left then I would like to be on the waiting list. I appreciate your very kind offer.

Ray-
I'd take a seat for the second rodeo if you have one... I can do any of the three days.

Well, I replied second!
I would love to go halibut fishing with you Ray because I hear you are one of the finest fishermen God ever made--and darn handsome too!
OK, OK, don't want you to get the wrong idea...
Uh...oh yea--my kids are allergic to all meat except for halibut and springers, and I just can't bear to see the little buggers starvin'!
Er...my Doctor says I only have weeks to live unless I get out in the salt--ahhh, the fresh air!
Alright, I just REALLY want to catch a halibut, or at least give it a go!!
PLEEEEEAAAAASSSSSSE!!!!!!!!!

And so subtle too.....

Maybe Ray can now appreciate what it like to be the target of such affection and admiration

Pilar and Mate: STOP IT!!! No fair "double teaming!!"
Miss B-Haven--errr...yes Captain!!!.
How do you make that sucking sound on the internet anyway  ?
The Bible says that pride comes before a fall, so I reckon I'll skip it and hope that the lack of it comes before a Halibut

As some of you know, I am in Ireland which is far far away from my boat and crew.

Please help me find seats for my displaced crew.

Drifty, Bait Boy and Threemuch were all scheduled to ride with me this week but I will not be back in time.

Please consider them to fill seats. They are all qualified crew and should be welcome on any worthy boat.

Thanks in advance...
