Movie: The River Why (Got to watch a bit)
Got to drop by the NWFFO's shop and take a peek at the production. If you have never read the book it is a fun read and set in the NW.

Could be interesting to see, I'll keep an eye out for it.
I have yet to fish a day on the Siletz without keeping an eye out for 'Eddy' lounging on one of those mossy boulders.

I can hardly wait for this movie to come out. I also think about Eddy and Anchor Abe when flyfishing some of those coast rivers.

Re: Movie: The River Why (Got to watch a bit)
I was out at Mciver park saturday when they were filming, quite the production they had going on. They set up some wires right at the mouth of Dog creek and would hook their line on to it made it look like they had a fish on.
when the movie comes out you will have no idea they were filming with a bunch of yahoo's fishing around thier set. The actors had their back to the creek, it made for a pretty cool shot.

My thought too. Who plays Eddy? Here's an off-the-wall vote. How 'bout Brooklyn Decker?
Who plays Hen? I suppose Tom Skerritt (sp?) is off limits...

Re: Movie: The River Why (Got to watch a bit)
I can not wait to see this movie! This is one of my favorite books. Jason Borger was at the Bamboo Fair over at the Metolious this year and he is helping with the fishing shots for the movie. He is also the guy flyfishing in the shots when they are filming the back of the actors. He was also Brad Pitt in a River Runs Through It. (My other favorite book) What a great job!
If you want to read more about the movie; go to Jasons blog. He has a lot of information on the movie there.
I was trying to guess where they were filming the movie; because he would not tell us. In my mind the movie took place on the Trask and Siletz. So it sounds like I was half right.
Thanks

Re: Movie: The River Why (Got to watch a bit)
I read the book ever so slowly. I enjoyed it a lot. I'm not much of a flyfisherman yet, but appreciate the connection it brings.
I pray to the fishing Gods that the movie doesn't ruin my vision.
Eddy? Diane Lane? Raquel Welch? Grrr

Re: Movie: The River Why (Got to watch a bit)
I always assumed there is a connection to the Yaquina river. The river Why "Y" Also the town of Eddyville -Eddy- sits right on the river.
Anyway I'm sure its a composite kind of thing. This is cool. I hadn't heard about the movie. If you haven't read it check out "Riverteeth". I love the essay about the Deschuttes and the wild redheaded guy vs the famous guide. That speech he gives about why he resents the high tech, high dollar yuppies who make places famous only to ruin them is priceless. And the response from the guide is good too. It is a good story about making someplace famous in order to save it and the tradeoffs involved.

Re: Movie: The River Why (Got to watch a bit)
Boy I hope they don't screw this up. I've been wondering for years when someone would take this book on. Seems like a natural for a movie. Seems like something that they could really botch if they don't stay close to the book.
Here's the cast:
Eddy - Amber Heard
Gus - Zach Gilford
H20 - William Hurt
Ma - Kathleen Quinlan
Young Ma - Nikki Deloach
Titus - Dallas Roberts
Bill Bob - Gattlin Griffith

Re: Movie: The River Why (Got to watch a bit)
The book is a great read. Very amusing. I always remember the bobble Jesus on the car dashboard he rigs up with a mock fly rod. As he drives around in his car, the Jesus bobbles and the fly rod false casts. Glad you brought it up, it's worth a re-read.
