Default Another Outrigger Question

I'm pretty ignorant about outriggers, but am trying to learn and trying to figure out how I might add them to my boat. I'm curious about how much stress there might be from gunnel mount riggers. I'm also wondering if it would be feasible to mount them to my radar arch....or would there be too much stress? Any ideas?

Might depend on how fast you are going Kerry. I would say at towing speed, it's not much stress......

Ok, sorry about that! I added riggers to the sides of my cabin this year and had the same concern. I added a about a 15" X 15" X 1" marine plywood backplate to each rigger base behind the glass and through bolted the bases. I can yard on the pretty hard and get zero movement in the glass. Your gunnels should be already pretty rock solid, but you could add a long backplate inside just to distribute the pressure. I have a crab davit mounted on my gunnel, and I can hang 100 lbs out there in rolling seas and it does just fine. Pretty sure it would hold twice that, but again, it has a backing plate to distribute the weight. I see plenty of "thru-glass" roof mounted riggers, all have pretty good backing plates as well. So your radar arch might work fine, as long as it doesn't just screw on and is well supported.
