Default Green vs. Red

I was thinking about springer fishing again(it's a disease I swear) and was wondering if the green vs. red school of thought was based on tradition or if there is actually a reason behind it. What I'm talking about is in the lower river green/chart is the color to use. Ask anyone and they'll tell you . However, at the Wind/Drano you can use whatever color you want as long as it's red/orange  . So how much of this "hot color" thing is just because it's tradition for the area and everyone is using it already? What I'm thinking is blue could be a "hot color" too if everybody was using it because they were told to and fish were being caught. Right? Maybe it actually has to do with water color and temp but I think it may be more of a "created" thing. All I know is they are all the same fish and I have smacked 'em in the lower river on blue, red, orange, white, black, purple, and yes green/chart. I have to admit though, I do use green/chart the most and only start changing up if I'm not getting bit  . So see, they way odds work I am creating my own "hot color". What are your theories?
