Default A new day

Calling all salty dogs ....

Hey guys it's time to go fishing, take pictures and make reports here so we can all learn something. Use that boat a few easy times before you go over the horizon with it.

You've had a long winter with little activity but now it's time to take the kids crabbing, go out and bottom fish on nice ocean days and shake off the cobwebs for the May halibut derby.

In other words that May halibut trip should be your 5th trip this spring, not your first in a boat that sat since last fall.

I mention May halibut because every year one of our friends or yours gets in trouble needlessly miles offshore. The result is often a lost boat and folks taking a seawater bath. The cause is often bad luck, failed equipment or a rusty skipper.

For you new guys, start asking questions and talking with the more experienced fishers about your boats and your gear. There's alot of new guys and gals.

Safety first, my friends.

This little part of Ifish has grown since it started. Lets not forget what we are all about. Helping each other out. It's about learning how to play on the ocean in groups with well maintained and equipped boats, smart skippers and piles of fish to eat at the days end. For some of us it's all about the boat ride and the fish is an extra. It's about sharing waypoints, gear, techniques and the hunt out on the water.

We all have alot of work to do to be safe this summer. Start now and do it right.

Let's get back to fishing in our little part of the sandbox. That is who we are .... fishing on the Ocean.

We now return you to the fishing channel .. all fishing, all the time.

Hey Jon,
You are so right. I have been out three times this spring (to date) and feel the need for lots more before being 30+ milkes off the sand. I will be getting in time on salmon and reef fishing but the more important thing is getting everything into top order. I still have to mount and test a new GPS, fishfinder, spare bilge pump, fuel monitor, washdown pump, arch, net and spare rod holders, fish tote, tackle holders, parts bins, spare anchor, chart holder, etc, etc, etc. Taking the time to get the boat ready for offshore work is the most important precaution we can make. oh, and don't forget that our friends and companion boats are a great last line of defense!
Thanks for th3 reminder Jon!

Good advice John! I guess that's one advantage of having a non-trailer boat. If I make the 80 mile run from PDX to Warrenton it's pretty much checked out.
Bayliner is 95% done (just a few little things left), polished to a fine shine and the for sale sign is on it. Should get the adds in this week,I had a bud take some pics in the Channel this weekend. Now- if it sells I can afford to do some maint (maybe even buy some fuel-ouch)on Miss B Haven!

FA, That means I can probably get the Fuel truck to come down for about $1.50? It was 85-95 cents last year! I'll be looking for LOT's of company and donations this year!
