Default Westport Tuna Sunday

Hey guys,
It looks like a go for me on Sunday out of Westport. Anyone decide they are also gonna give it a try and want to head out together.

I was going to try Westport this weekend but the extra strong ebbs at the time you want to cross the bar have made me decide to wait for a better time. The tide is dropping almost 12' and sat ebb at 5:43 am is 4.16 knots Sun. is a little later. There is no moon and a chance of fog so going befor the ebb is on radar and gps which sounds too sporty for me. There is another strong ebb to come in against at 6:17 PM and the wind will probably be at its strongest about then. I have not fished out of Westport for over 30 years so to get started there again I will wait. I really want to fish out of there and will on a better day. There are small crafts offshore for today dropping overnight to 10 to 15. Could be sloppy.

Its a go for Sunday. Waiting till about 7 am to cross when the ebb starts to slow down. I don't like running in the dark so the late start will have to do.

Here's the bar info...

Max current at 0627 speed at -3.9 knots the slack at 0943

and the latest forecast...

Sun
NW wind 10 to 20 kt. Wind waves 1 to 3 ft. W swell 4 ft.

Wetsands says 2 to 4 ft at 7 seconds.

Sunday's forecast finally calmed down to within my own personal limitations, but the tides are big and out of synch.
So, I made the same "No Go" decision as PT9Baja. Next weekend looks much better tide wise.
Only about a 5 foot swings and a high slack much closer to my first ever crossings.
I'm planning to fish 2 days back to back instead of only the 2 Sundays.
Now, if the wind and waves will also cooperate next weekend?

Dave.

with the tide as big as it is at Westport this weekend, I would Be VERY cautious on that Bar on the ebb. If It was me, I wouldnt go over until 1 hour B4 Slack on that morning Ebb. Its gonna be stacked up on max ebb, and will take a bit longer than normal to lay down...

My guess is the coasties may even have it closed to 20-26 and under during Max ebb, and an hour or so before and after..

Also, if you are going way out for tuna, make sure you keep the PM ebb in mind as well!!

Be safe, and Good LUck... The terrafin looks awesome... THe fishing should be great out there to the SW!!
