Default Newport

The canceled Tunaholics meeting in Newport was a good time for all! It looked like 25-30 hearty souls braved the inclimate(?) weather and joined in tuna and halibut talk at the Rogue brewery restaurant. It was nice to see so many tuna nuts again. It was GREAT to get my clothes from Rod...he did a fabulous job on the Salty Dog gear!!!!! Sorry that many of you missed the opportunity to join in, but there will be other opportunities!

Amen, Dave. It was great to see some old friends & finally meet some on-line friends. The semi-official count was about 35 people. Here are a few shots of the gang:

Behind every good man there's an even better woman

Mr & Mrs Bluebeast on the right, fishwhenican past them, northriver1 Bob across, others...

The charming Diana & her pet charter boat skipper Mike

Check out the look in his eye... what's he thinking?

Isn't there some health department law about not serving beverages & fishing tackle on the same table?

WP (Dave) & his very charming wife Joey. I finally found out what WP means!! Is that Skein (at left)going to another table to swipe more beer?

Pilar (John) with his perennial "just got back from fishing" look, and me in desperate need of a water-induced tan for my neck

Hey, Mark, thanks for the pics and all the work you did. Especially thanks for the show-and-tell you did at our table. I think Northriver1 put at least three of those fish-trap look-a-likes in his shirt pocket before you could get them back in your bag. And did you get a cedar plug before-and-after count? Fishwhenican was looking longingly at them with a glazed, far-away look in his eye.

Fun time. Real relaxed, and we just keep on meeting Salties. What a great bunch, but real desperate. I think the fishies are in BIG trouble this summer.

Did I mention that we really, really need to get out....?

It was good to see some of you again and meet some of you for the first time. Popeye, I never got to say thanks for the first-class treatment on that fine ride of yours . And also to whoever supplied the tasty drinks and smoked tuna (I think Mark brought the tuna?). BTW: how was the food at the pub? I wish I could have stayed but had to get back to Albania.

Corrirod, I'll have to pick up those shirts at another time? :depressed:

Hey you crazies ... Thank you for being who you are and for making these parties so much fun.

Once upon a time I knew a bunch of about a hundred guys I would call my brothers to this day, 20 years later. We were making the world safe for democracy and most of what we did and the places we went, I can't talk about. What I can say is that there is a word for what we had and the way we dealt with each other.

Esprit de corps ......... or the spirit of the group.

That is what I am experiencing here and now with all of you. Thank you and I hope each and every Salty Dog has a safe and killer summer on the big blue lake.

Fun Time... almost as much fun as fishing. Thanks to all who helped make it a success... especially to Popeye for hosting the 'pre-party' on his beautiful boat and Mark Mc for all the planning, pics, and smoked tuna.

That's OK Joe, Rod and I are both so handsome we're easily confused. In fact after posting these photos I should have said "if I got any names wrong on the captions, please let me know."

Rogue beer + lots of people + being over 40 = hard to get names right.

Thanks Mark for making possible the TA meeting and Poyeye for the after hours party. I am sure glad we got a room for the night.

Mark, if you are missing a few of your toys look to Skein. No way you gain 20 pounds from food and drink in one night. Again, thanks.

Thanks Mark Mc, Popeye & the (Original) Julie Rose  !

Once again, it was great to see some old faces, some familiar faces and some old familiar faces and meet some new people. What an awesome bunch! I always come away from these things with a ton of new information and some really great memories.

Oh, and it was great fun, too! ( Note to self: bring extra stash of tequila to share when the first round is gone)

Julie: I haven't forgotten your request about the video...

Yea Mark, but the scary thing is that I'm not over 40 yet In a few more years I'm going to need a "welcome to newport" sign off the ends of the jetties just to make sure I don't pull in to Netarts!

Thanks to all who helped to organize the get-together. Thanks to Popeye (and Julie) for the after hours party. Thanks to Pillar for the free-flow of info. Mark Mc did you do a gear count before??? weigh us in weigh us out -- check for lost gear, I think it was Skein  Really all I did was drool on some, I just told you it was spilled beer.
