Fuel tax and availability of fuel
I'm probably completely out of touch on this one since I haven't owned a motorboat (just driftboats) for years.
It seems that I remember, since tax on gas is a "road" tax, that the tax for fuel used for boating was refundable. No?
And since I am on the subject of fuel, I haven't seen fueling stations at marina docks Either because I am blind or they've been removed. Come to think of it I'm pretty sure that there is one at the Westport boatbasin.
If you know of a station or two on the Columbia or elsewhere it would make life easier as I plan to do as much traveling as I can.
as usual thanx for your input.

Re: Fuel tax and availability of fuel
lets start at the mouth, and these are the ones that I know of...
Hammond has gas and probably diesel. Ilwaco might have gas but I am not sure. Freds on the Multnomah channel has gas. Port of Camas has gas staff jennings on the willamette has gas (right under the sellwood bridge.
I know Newport also has fuel.
Thats all I can recall hope that helped a little.

Re: Fuel tax and availability of fuel
There is a fuel dock at the Chinook boat basin in Chinook Washington. If any one has info about a tax refund this would save alot of us some money I usually burn up to 20 gal per trip except for yesturdays sturgeon derby, launching from 42nd launch going up to the fishery at full throttle and back burned 44.5 gallons OUCH.

Re: Fuel tax and availability of fuel
I called the State about the gas tax for boats. It was a while ago so my memory is a little foggy. They were very nice and actually called me back very quickly after I left a message. They said that a certain percentage of the gas tax goes to the state marine board. So there is no refund for boaters. I think there is in WA.

Re: Fuel tax and availability of fuel
Thanx a ton for the info. A fella can plan a long trip with the fuel dock info. which is one reason I bought the boat.
Very Informative on the refund of taxes and probably will be worthwhile over time.

If you buy a few hundred gallons of boat gas per year, we hope you find this information valuable. Good Luck from the Recreational Boating Association of Washington!

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">re:Hoggemin's post - that 44.5 gal. trip could net him $5.34 - do it 20 times a year and it's a new reel. $1.75 - $.12 doesn't sound like much but $1.10 - $.12 = $.98 sounds good. Seems as though RBAW is an activist group that one should know more about. I hope that there is a similar group in ORE.
Again, as usual, Thanx

Re: Fuel tax and availability of fuel
Do any of you WA guys/gals know about if you fill up on a trailered boat at a regular gas station? The first line states "fuel dock" so I am probably out of luck. However a 52 gal tank over a year could surely add up to purchasing some other taxed item(s). Interesting link Rod Holder, thanks.

Re: Fuel tax and availability of fuel
This is very interesting, gonna have to look into this here in CA! One reason I opted for the diesel was to try and find a source for the red fuel but if I can get a refund that would make a big difference over a year. Any amount of $$$$$$ that you can take back from the "establishment" is worth it just in principle alone!
