Default Hood Canal Shrimp regs.

Here is the link to the Hood Canal Shrimp Regs. http://www.wa.gov/wdfw/fish/shelfish...g/area12.shtml The season usually opens the 3rd Saturday in May, and has been a Wed. Saturday 9am-1pm show the last few years.

There are several different pot designs, including those at http://www.cushmanboats.com/
Personal the most common bait is Puss and Boots fish flavored cat food which can be bought by the case during shrimp season. The key to the bait is what you mix with it to immediately attract shrimp when your pot goes in the water. Ground up herring, mackeral, herring oil, fish meal, etc are all additives that are used in various combinations. We usually put the bait in mesh holders (like gutter mesh) and locate it in the middle of the pot.

Usually shrimp in over 300' of water, and the tides are usually very strong that time of year like -3.0 to +13.0. So need to weight pots.

Anyway, my $.02 worth of very enjoyable experience.

Default Re: Hood Canal Shrimp regs.

The regulations and previous catch records for Washington was some interesting reading.

Thanks for the tips. Today's offshore forcast:
SW WIND 35 KT...EASING TO 20 KT IN THE AFTERNOON. COMBINED
SEAS 20 TO 26 FT. DOMINANT PERIOD 13 SECONDS. A CHANCE OF SHOWERS
AND TSTMS.

Hopefully by the end of the week it will calm down enough to get out and give Oregon shrimping a try.
