No not that kind.
I'm talking about the show on ESPN.
Spanish Fly
I make the mistake of watching this show in the mornings before I go to work. Good thing I only live about 10 min. from work otherwise I would be late everytime.
They were on wednesday morning and were fishing in the Gulf of Mexico out from where the Mississippi dumps in for yellowfin TUNA!
They were anchored up in about 150 ft. and chumming. Looks like a blast to me. Watching over the side of the boat till a good sized one comes in and then dropping your bait down and jigging in by hand until they take it.
Man, when they picked up the rod that reel just screamed! I can only imagine what it was like to be there in person and feel that power on the other end. They caught several small ones and put a 135# in the boat. Then I had to take off to work and missed the rest.
Interesting side note, the gaff they used wasn't a typical smooth curve that I am familiar with. More of a box shape with rounded corners and a blunted cutting edge on the tip instead of a sharp point. The first mate made a beautiful head shot with the gaff, oh yea, and that pretty blood went everywhere. They do bleed like a stuck pig don't they.
Any way, I try to watch the show as much as I can to try and learn some things so I am not too green on my first trip out, whenever that may be.
Most of the fishing I have seen them doing is in the Florida/Gulf/Bahamas areas.
Previous one I watched they were chasing permit by the big radio towers off the coast and also looking for some big grouper. Talk about a kick in the pants. They went through a bunch of crabs catching permit. And I though perch were bait stealers, them buggers can srip a crab off a hook like nobody's business.
Ah well, watch, learn and wish to fish I guess.
Anyone else watch this show? I need to start recording episodes for later reference.
Here is another one I found on Mustad's site.
