Default Broadheads: Down to three...

Well, after quite a bit of research and deliberation, I've narrowed my broadhead search down to 3 for this year's archery season. I plan on shooting all 3 choices this weekend. My final decision will be based on a combination of a few things:

1. how they fly out of my bow
2. cutting ability & sharpness
3. Accuracy (I guess this could be lumped into #1 too...)

I'd like to get input from others on my choices. Out of the 3 broadheads in the poll, pick which one you would shoot. Please give your reason(s) why, and please give your reason(s) why you wouldn't shoot the others if you've had experiences with them. I want to hear good and bad, so don't hold anything back.

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but there are a lot of reasons why I narrowed it down to these three, so please don't try to "sell" me on another broadhead.

Thanks

-jokester

Rocky mtn. blitz. I have shot all of the poll choices and these are the best I have shot IMHO. Shuttle T's would be second.

I would have to say none of the above as I wont shoot a removable blade B-head.

Aaron- how could you go wrong with any of those three? If everyone is freaked out about removable blades, go with the Shuttles.

I like 3 blade Muzzys. Interlocked blades are hard to mess up.

They're bad to the bone.

Good one Wil. Innerlocs maybe? I love word search games. Go with the Shuttle T's Aaron, I don't think you'll be dissapointed.

Honestly I don't think you'd go wrong with any of them. Personnaly I shoot the tricks. They fly well out of my bow. They hold up well on game. I think you get a bigger hole on a 4 blade as well. I don't think the shuttle ts are any better so I won't pay an extra $10 per 3. That's $40 a dozen that I can put somewhere else.

I bought some Shuttle T's today.....had to see what a $12 broadhead was all about. Took a while to get the courage up to let one fly.....it went well.....they shoot great and seem very well made. Man that is a lot of money for a broadhead. Not gonna use 'em for grouse!

I still like my thunderhead 85's, they are strong and the company has been around for years. They have always done me well on big game. The shuttles look good but they are a throw away broadhead, use them once and throw them away unless you are very good at sharpening.

I am shooting the slick tricks this year. I have always relied on muzzy's but the slicks fly like bullets and no changes needed they fly the same as field points.

I'm not rich by any means, but I feel I owe it to the animal to buy what shoots the best, groups the best, and kills the fastest. Therefore, money is the LEAST of my worries when it comes to those three choices.

It doesn't matter to me that I might not be a ble to re-use my broadhead after I kill an animal. I don't plan on re-using them. I'm anal like that, so I will replace that broadhead with a brand new one anyway

Well, I got out today to shoot all 3 choices. I shot a group of 3 arrows with each broadhead at 20, 30, & 40 yards. I was shooting at a Yellow Jacket target, and even had a slight cross wind. All broadheads I let loose, hit exactly where my 100gr field points do at each yardage. I was very pleased with the accuracy of all 3, and how well they flew. I was also pleased at the penetration I got frome each broadhead. They were all buried about the same.

There was only 2 things that bothered me, and both were fom the Slick Tricks:

1. They had a whistle to them while they were in flight...almost like a hiss sound.

2. The way the blades were interlocked was kinda hokey and a bit more difficult to assemble. Mind you, i've never used these before, so I might be wrong...but they looked as if they wouldn't stand up to much punishment if they hit something a little harder.

All in all though...a very good experience today. I will be shooting either the Shuttle T's or the MX4's this year!

Thanks Rauly for being my official arrow holder

Nice shot, Hawkeye! Do you shoot Slick Tricks for deer and elk too? If so, based on my observations from today about how the blades interlock, how durable are they when you hit a rib or other bone? Also, do you notice the "hiss" sound too?

Pain in the Butt to sharpen when you can just change the blades out on the others listed and have a basically brand new head.

It always cracks me up when I hear guys say, "Man, $12 for a broadhead is WAY too much to spend" when they are shooting an $800 bow, plus another $400 in accessories, literally $1000's of dollars in other hunting gear and equipment, tack on a few hundred more for the gas to get to and from your spot, plus EVERYTHING else.

Fact: We don't hunt to save money on red meat.

$12 on a broadhead is a "drop in the bucket", and since my broadhead is "doing the work" to finish my months of scouting and thousands of dollars spent, I'm shooting what I believe is the best broadhead, not one that saves me a couple bucks.

This is exactly the point I was trying to make earlier! $35 for 3 broadheads is but a small FRACTION compared to all the other $$ that it takes.
