Puget Sound Salty Dogs?
Howdy,
I realize that most of you guys are down in Oregon, but was curious about Pugest Sounders. I live up in Bellingham, WA and wanted to get an idea of who lives up in my neck of the woods.
Birdnest
PS I am aware of Bob Ball's page.

Re: Puget Sound Salty Dogs?
Hey Birdnest, I'm on Bainbridge Island but used to be in Eugene so I like to stay up on what is happening on the coast . . . so I hang out here a little

Re: Puget Sound Salty Dogs?
WP - why on earth would you want to retire up here? The fishin' is much mo' better where you are and a heck of a lot less crowded . . . ?

Re: Puget Sound Salty Dogs?
Home port is the Everett area. I fish locally from Anacortes to Edmonds and in the summer hit the Seiku to Swiftsure area.

Re: Puget Sound Salty Dogs?
Man does not live by fishing alone...besides, the northern areas are closer to Everet and Bellingham. The real reason is that my wife wants to be closer to a city and wants to get her Masters in nursing...UW is the place and I won't live in Seattle sooooooo

Re: Puget Sound Salty Dogs?
I live in Vancouver, WA and have not fished the sound much. It is no farther for me to go north than south and would be interested in meeting up there.

Re: Puget Sound Salty Dogs?
Hey Birdnest,
I'm in Seattle. Do most of my fishing between Elliott Bay and Possession with a few trips out to Sekiu or Neah Bay and usually one trip up to Nootka Sound each year.
I plan to do more fishing off the coast this year... hopefully chasing lots of TUNA!!
I'm heading to B'ham on the 17th or 18th this month... bringing a Stabi-Craft up that way to show to a dealer. I think you just bought a Hewescraft ... but maybe you want to come and take a look? Let me know and I'll give you a shout when I start north.
Dan

Hamachi here. Originally form So Cal where I fished for everything from 0-100nm offshore, concentrating on tuna/doado/yellowtail/mako.
Now I'm in the Gig Harbor area where I hit the local sound, with some Neah Bay halibut/rockfish and Westport albie thrown in.

Re: Puget Sound Salty Dogs?
Birdnest-
Moved up here with a job transfer after living in Longview for quite some time. A whole different ball game!!! I had to by downriggers and get used to not catching Steelhead. :depressed: I live on the Skagit up towards Concrete. We've been fishing the salt every weekend with minimal results? Bellingham bay can sure get rough!!! Give a shout if you know some hot spots. I plan on heading south every other weekend for springers.

Re: Puget Sound Salty Dogs?
Yikes WP, we live in parallel universes, that's what happened to me. I sold my business in Eugene and the wife says "I'm tired of this backwater hippy infested town, were moving to Seattle". I agreed but I refused to live in the metro area or even a suburb (traffic!) so we ended up on Bainbridge. It's like living in the country but a short ferry ride puts you in downtown Seattle.

Re: Puget Sound Salty Dogs?
Hamachi - those are my real fishing roots as well. Before life in Eugene I cut my teeth on offshore SoCal tuna, marlin, dorado, hamachi, calicos, etc. Its the only thing I miss about California.

Re: Puget Sound Salty Dogs?
Wow, more than I thought. We should try and organize some trips. I don't get my boat until May, but after that I will have plenty of extra seats. I have been fishing rivers so I am very excited to get a little salty.
WP-you have a Hewescraft as well, don't you? When do you retire?
Stabiman- Yea, sorry. I went with the 20' Searruner. I saw the red one you had at the boat show. Nice.
Green Machine- hey you wanted some hot spots...your back yard. I caught a couple of steelies (thanks in large part to my friends) just above Birdsview last Friday. Last day before they shut it down.
I look forward to running into you'll. It is a humpy year. Maybe we should organize a San Juan camping gig. Washing down some fresh crab and salmon on the beach with a cold one sounds like a good time. Shoot we might even get some of our Southern brethern up here with this kinda talk.

Re: Puget Sound Salty Dogs?
yep! A similar boat to yours...unfortunately I am still 3-5 years from a Washington move (retirement)...such is life! I will have to continue to catch all these wonderful Oregon fish until then!

Re: Puget Sound Salty Dogs?
I spent my highschool yrs in P.O. Manchester use to kickout 12 - 20lb. Blackmouths back in the 70's and even into the 80's. Allen bank will produce fish when it's open. A must have downrigger show, with depths of 90 to 110 ft. That north end of Banbridge in Aug. gets the Indians run of chinooks that go into Gorst Cr. Jeffs head can be a long run but we use to do real good there. My brother-inlaw and Dad still hit the south side of Banbrige, between Blake and the Green can. I miss that type of fishing, but what's here in Or. doesn't even compare.

Re: Puget Sound Salty Dogs?
Top of the morning... I currently reside in Portland, but will be moving the Kent to Olympia area in the next couple of months... I look forward to the opportunity to make some new friends up here and share boat expenses with those that may have room on their boat sometime in the future...

Re: Puget Sound Salty Dogs?
Live in Seattle.
Fish the sound every chance I get. Usually stay between Dolphin Pt. and San Juans. Own a whaler, and fish hard w/ downriggers. Where's the nicer weather so we can get out on the water before the blackmouth closes?
