Default Adding an Alternator to a Mercury 9.9

Is it possible to add an Alternator to a Mercury 9.9 four stroke?

Call the dealer. I don't have any manuals for Merc 4 stroke motors.

I checked the Mercury website for the specs. The 9.9 manual has a 6 amp alternator.

I called the dealer. He's going to call Mercury Tech to see if they recommend charging from this motor. The dealer suggested that using the isolator switch should be fine for most cases. He also suggested that 6 amps is probably too much to run all of the time into the battery.

Still, if I can rig up emergency charger connections from the 9.9, I may do it. It should be relatively easy and an extra level of redundancy. Then, I'll just hope I never have to use it!

It never hurts to have an extra charger. We were 10 or more miles up the Chickamin River in SE Alaska bear hunting and a stick got caught in the float switch for the bilge bump and ran for two days. The battery (only one, the boat was owned by a bonehead electrician) was dead. The alternator on the Honda kicker saved us a long walk.

I meant an extra charger... but take your pick from any of the items in your post and I'll bet 90% of them could be found in your barn (or built from things in your barn)
