Re: Ocean on Sat.?
John and I will likely be heading out of Tillamook, too for bottom fish and crab.
Greg: call us tonight. Or better yet, just get your behind to the gillnet meeting and we'll chat with you there.
WP, we'll holler for ya.

Re: Ocean on Sat.?
My boy is down with Strep Throat, bummer for him as his B-Day party had to be cancelled. He'll like his gifts though.
I am hoping to get him salty at the Newport get together.
Those of you making the venture be safe and please give a full report when you get back

Re: Ocean on Sat.?
I was hopeing for Newport, but I can deal with Garibaldi. Last trip to Three Arch wasn't too productive. Went to Newport last week and did great on ling and other bottom dwellers. Let me think some more, my mind is sort of taxed right now so I'll check back in a bit. Fishing shouldn't be this much mind work.

Ocean on Sat.?
I have no idea how to post links, but the forecast for Sat. is 5 knots and 7 swells at 13 sec. Is anyone going tomorrow? This sounds like a decent day. Lunch is over so back to work.Let me know if you're going. I meet up if anyone is.

Re: Ocean on Sat.?
Tne skipper and I will be going out of Tillamook for ground fish, if the bar is passable (looks good). Could go out on Sunday too, if the bar is still good. A bit far to go out of Newport though :depressed: Will be on 78 if anyone wants to talk!
(We are on holiday in Rockaway)

Re: Ocean on Sat.?
Killer day!
We bagged 15 black and blue rocks, several shaker lings and a 24 -1/2 male ling.
Crabbing was way below expectations with only 5 males out by the south jetty. But now we have seabass carc for bait for the next time.
My mate got to play captain all day and I was the bait boy.
She will tell her story on another thread. Her trip included her first bar crossing as pilot on a nice bar going out and a return on an ebbing bar that was not so nice.

Re: Ocean on Sat.?
Sunday, on WP, with Dave and Joanna we got about 50 nice seabass(kept about 15), a 25" ling, and a couple greenling. Only 3 crabs in four pots in 50' of water. Worst ocean crabbing for me in Oregon. The big swell must have em buried.

Re: Ocean on Sat.?
Guys and Gals,
I had the same experience crabbing, in about 50' of water north of the Yaquina Bay jetty -- I couldn't believe it.
Seabass were biting very well, but I couldn't find a good colored worm that the ling wanted. Finally started using stingers and that sparked some ling interest.
As always, just good to be out.

Re: Ocean on Sat.?
Seasquid: John got his ling with a herring. Same as a salmon rig (sans flasher).
I was getting shaker ling with pieces of squid on shrimp flies.
The seabass were all over those flies with squid-bits - especially the head and tentacles. Nice to see the rockfish so big and fat!

Re: Ocean on Sat.?
What a fantastic grade of rockfish! We had seabass to 7 pounds or so, with the average probably at 4 or so.

Re: Ocean on Sat.?
What a gre3at weekend of fishing. Saturday Joey and I drifted down to where Jon and Jen let us catch a bunch of blacks, until our arms got sore and we called it a day...just wusses I think! Sunday we had the great pleasure of fishing with Kurt (Threemuch) and had another wonderful day on the blue. A ton of really healthy blacks and a couple of lings (one keeper). Crabbing was not so hot but we stole one of Kurt's crabs and had it for dinner....outstanding, and joey even was able to eat some! Look forward to fishing Tillamook again sometime and certainly look forward to sharing days with Kurt again, he is a perfect companion...even if he says otherwise! Thanks Kurt for a great day!
