What is the speed of your bow?
Speed is definetely not the most important thing about a bow. Obviously how smooth a bow is and how well it shoots and feels to you is way more important than speed. Not to mention how light it is during a long hunt. But being that nobody actually shoots the ibo test speed specs of 30" draw at 70lbs with a 350 grain arrow, I'm just curious what different bows shoot for speed with different setups. Of course a chronograph is kind of like a dyno they all read a little different. But Lets hear what ACTUAL chronographed numbers you guys have got and your setup.
I'll start with my hunting setup it is:
- Mathews Drenalin
-30 inch draw
-65% letoff
-74lb draw weight
-427 grain arrow including tip
- 301 fps
My Back up bow
- Mathews Black Max II
-29.5" draw
-60% letoff
-83lb draw weight
-427 grain arrow including tip
- 324fps
My wifes hunting Bow
- Mathews Dxt
- 27" draw
- 80% letoff
- 44lb draw weight(off season)
- unknown arrow weight
- 212 fps

Wow thats very respectable for a relatively short short draw at 66lbs. That's why I started the thread. I really have no idea what other bows shoot. I do know arrow weight changes speed drastically right off the bow.

If you want to pick up the speed a bit, get rid of those tree trunks and try a carbon. You will be astonished at the change.

Re: What is the speed of your bow?
Do I need to know? I've never shot through a chronagraph. I shoot an older Bowtech Pro 38 at 68Lb now. I can't handle the 74# I used to set it at. I try to stay at about 500 grs. Easton Superlite 2314 100 gr tip Thru a wisker biskit. Three pins handle the distances that I'll take a shot at. I guess I should check to see how fast or slow it is. I use the old 6 inch circle method for the pins. Each bow is different depending on the trajectory. Each pin covers a distance where the impact point is never more that 3 inchs high or low. the next pin takes over when the first pin impacts three inchs low and so on. The faster the bow the more yardage each pin covers. Deer and Elk arn't always at even ten yard incriments away.

No It's definetely not something you need or have to know. Speed really isn't that important. Just curious what bows shoot for those people who have shot thru a chrono

Re: What is the speed of your bow?
I dunno, but it goes really really fast. I wouldn't put my hand in front of it...
The biggest problem I've had with my new Hoyt, is that my pins are so close together it gets hard to see through them...seriously.

Re: What is the speed of your bow?
Here is a site for you to see how hard your arrows are hitting.
http://www.goldtip.com/calculators/kinetic.asp
Mine are hitting right at 65 lbs of kinetic energy.
Here is another one to make sure you have enough front of center weight.
http://www.goldtip.com/calculators/foc.asp
My front of center is 8.33%

That is why I went to the single pin adjustable HHA sight. Set it at 30 yards and hold a few inches high at 40 or a few low at 20 if you don't have time to adjust for the shot. I much prefer to have an open sight window.
My Bowtech Extreme VFT shoots around 280 fps very quietly and smoothly.

You know what's best about a slow arrow? You can have a branch between you and the elk and know you can still hit it as the arrow will lob way over!! Did that on a bull at 50 one time down hill - took him home too.
