Default Shimano Triton 300?????

A friend handed me a reel yesterday, a Shimano Triton 300. It's a right hand model and he's one of those guys that can't use a right hander  .
I asked what he wanted for it and he said
"don't know, you figure it out and let me know". I promptly told him it looked pretty worn and makes some grinding noises. I studied it for almost 2 seconds and said I'd guess it might be worth 5 or 10 bucks.
That didn't work . I did a search last night and couldn't find the 300 model. I'm guessing that it's a older model that they don't make anymore. They do have a lever action drag model that goes for almost $200.
Anybody have one of these or know something about them?
I going to try an get by Olie's this week, they should know something.
Yes, I did the search on IFish.

I have a few TR 200g's and had a Charter Special (lever drag) before it slipped and went the bottom of the CR, but I've never heard of a 300.
I'm thinking Olie's might be your best bet.

Jsail:

The reel you are asking about (Shimano Triton 300) was last sold about 10 years ago. The retail price ranged from $95.00 to about $115.00 brand new. If the reel sounds gritty then the owner probably did not take care of it.
It could be salvaged if you are willing to spend the time and money. I do not feel comfortable putting a price tag on the reel since I have not seen it myself.

I have owned at least 12 (1981-1989) of the Triton 300 level winds and they are excellent reels. Other than replacing the friction disks and maybe shimming the bush brg. at the handle, they out-lasted the next two generation of reels I purchased. Regretfully, half of them were stolen.

The ones I still have are still the "flagship" of my 4 rigger rods and I fish a LOT of salmon on the Great Lakes, especially Lake Ontario. Any Triton 300 is worth the salvage effort in my books or send it to me.

note! New to this yak station, so bear with me.

The Triton 300's date back to the 1980's and they were and still are excellent reels. A few required new drag disks and bushing shims replaced in the handle stem, but they beat the Tournament 2000 Lever Drag hands down. I bought 12 and still use 4 (6 were stolen); 2 were lost over the years. Worth repairing.
