Default "River Horse" by William Least Heat Moon

Does anyone know where I can buy this book in the Portland area? Preferable on the West side. (Beaverton, Hillsboro....)

I agree, a tough read, even with the nice boat. His first book was pretty good, but this one was full of philosophical musings that were not compelling or particularly insightful. He did praise how strongly the boat was built. He also said the C-Dory pounds in the short chop of the rivers and lakes, but we knew that.

Read this one several years ago. It is dry reading although the idea is really good. Crossing the US by water. I doubt that this feat could be duplicated in most years he needed the very full river conditions and floods to get through some of the areas.

I have a copy around the house some where. You can have it if I can find it.

Thanks for the book report. If it's that dry reading, maybe I'll go fishing instead.

I'm sure Mr F will chime in here sometime.. I tried to get through a chapter while it was laying around. I couldn't get through one page without falling asleep . Very dry reading I couldn't pick out the useful info through the rabble that the guy was spouting.

Then again it might have just been the lack of pictures

I'd be willing to bet that Powells Downtown would have a used copy. You could probably phone and order over phone or try their website. Amazon would be another bet.

Don't buy a used copy, wiat for a free copy.
I saved my copy from winding up alongside the port-a-pot in my friends boat. (It was going to reside next to the reading material )
If/when I finally finish my copy I will gladly forward it on to a new reader.
