Advice on buying 20' Jet Boat with Sport Jet 175XR2
I am looking at a couple of used 20 foot jet boats. One has a SportJet 175XR2. 200. hours.
Any advice on that powerplant?

Good power to weight ratio. Top manufactures like Rogue Marine and Motion marine use them.

Re: Advice on buying 20' Jet Boat with Sport Jet 175XR2
I bought a new 20 footer in 2001 with 175 SJ. Ran the nuts off it and never had any major issues. Did rebuild the starter once but installed a primer bulb and never had another issue with that. Had to replace the steering cable as it runs right in front of the exhaust vent and it melted the cable housing. A bit noisy and bad smokey when real cold.

None of those metioned buildiers are even in the same class as Riddle.
The 175 is a bit cold blooded to start otherwise it's a good power plant. I had one in a Motion Marine and it worked well.

I have a Willie Preditor with a 175 SJ. Great motor for us. The boat is over 10 years old and we have never had a problem! Great power to weight ratio! We also use our boat to waterski. It works very good!

I have a 175 in an 18ft boat
yes they are cold blooded and a bit smokey when cold
but very reliable
10 yrs and only replaced starter
easy fix 4 bolts 2 wires exposed and easy to get to
cost 104.00 for starter on the net (pete's small engine parts)
and of course plugs and gear oil changes

Have a NR Sportster with 175. Enough power to pull skier. Pretty good on fuel. Can have 5 adults in boat with no problem getting on plane.
