Default Back to Fuel Management Systems

I ordered a horizon ff41 after the good tips I recieved on IFish. I bounced this off my boat mechanic who has done some really good work for me in the past, and he was pretty negative. He said he has had boats come in for service, and they have traced the problem to air leaks, etc: in the systems. He also has a concern that, since I will have to install a second fuel filter, coupled with the addition of the system itself, it may put to much load on the fuel pump. Anyone got comments or suggestions?

I'll let you know pretty soon as I ordered one as well. Judging from the comments heard here from some people with some history of using this device I'm expecting good results. Why did your mechanic feel you needed a supplemental fuel filter? I was planning on installing it after the squeeze bulb and filter on my OB. I hope that is an option.

I also would like to know more about the problems he's seen. Why duel filters? Where are the air leaks coming from?

I've only had mine for a year now but my neighbor has had his for close to 8 years and never had a problem.

Thanks for any info you can get.

The installation instructions on every make of system I have looked at call installation in the fuel line on the engine, or downstream side of the fuel filter. On my boat, there is no room to install between the engine and the filter. The only way to do it is to install another in-line filter, and install the system in the fuel line between the new in-line filter and the factory installed filter. On an outboard, it should not be a problem if there is a filter on the tank side with access to the fuel line.

I have the same unit and been very happey with it .It must be installed with the sensor after the filter so the unit does not get particles in it.The sensor must be in the verical position that is the had part some times.

I've had my Floscan for over a year with no problems. As everyone has said downstream of the filter. I even use a 'y' fitting so I can monitor the gas use of the trolling motor as well. Same fittings as my filter and everything else. No fuel leaks, no air leaks. Best investment I've made in a long time. As valuable as the Radio or GPS.
