Do you know how to resize a picture?
Just curious what percent of our people know how to make a picture smaller?
There are two kinds of "smaller"
One is in size as in Kbyte, and one is in physical size.
I'm talking physical size.
Funny, but if you save a jpg enough times, it may actually get bigger in 'weight' or kbytes.
So, I'm talking about from 800 pixels wide, to 600. (example only, your numbers may vary!)
I set my screen, for instance, to 800 wide. That means that if there is any picture over 700, my screen will scroll horizontally. I do that so that I have larger print for my eyesight ability.

Re: Do you know how to resize a picture?
Oh, and although this has a few popups that people dislike, this is a great Irfanview tutorial.

Re: Do you know how to resize a picture?
Here is a cool way if you are low budget and not savvy with other computer programs. You have to have MS PowerPoint.
1. Your digital camera when a picture is downloaded to your computer are saved in some picture format on the desktop as individual icons or in folders you pick.
2. Open the picture up, in the upper left corner go to Edit and go to Copy. Now go to an open PowerPoint document and hit paste.
3. Now you will have the same huge digital picture. Single click the picture and you will see little while boxes in each corner and in the middle. Go to the lower left or right corner and drag it up and in. The picture gets smaller, you can make it fit into the PowerPoint window.
4. Now you can do two things, You can right click the smaller picture and copy and then go back to picture format program and paste and then save. You Kbyte/pixels are about the same or…
5. Back in PowerPoint, hit the slide show icon, the picture gets bugger in your screen, now hit prt scr on your keyboard, and then go back to picture format program and paste and then save. Exact same picture as in 4 above, but you save a ton on Kbyte/pixels size.

Re: Do you know how to resize a picture?
I use Picasa, Just have all my photos in there, no matter what size they are. you can set it to resize them to whatever size you want, when you export/email a picture directly from Picasa, it automatically resizes it to whatever you have it set too. Really simple and effective.

Re: Do you know how to resize a picture?
I use Gimp. Open the image. Click Image> scale image> can adjust the size by pixels, or inches. Save and post. Easy as that.

Re: Do you know how to resize a picture?
I do, but possibly the only thing on iFish that baffles me is why the mods occassionally tell me to resize the pics.
I've left the camera on 600x800 for a few months but like the resolution of the larger pics. I just don't understand the complaints. It's not like the old pics were a yard wide by a yard tall.
regards, aw

Re: Do you know how to resize a picture?
Adobe, you don't have to set your camera to that. I would NEVER do that. What if you were to capture an excellent picture? You'd want to have it in the highest format available. So, don't set your camera there. Set it to the highest. Then, resize it for web use. No use posting pictures with great resolutions, because the web is only capable of 72 dpi, anyhow.
The reason to resize is that some people have their settings for the comp at 800 pixels by 600. (Their desktop.)
Ifish's layout has tables, so that if you set it the pictures at 800, it will add a few more hundred for the tables, and by the time that it is all laid out, the whole screen will scroll for some people. That's really ugly and then when you go to read the text, you have to scroll sideways to read it.
That's a hassle.
If they are only 600 wide, you should have no problem, though. I think you mean it's 800 wide. Try to keep your pictures to no more than 700 pixels wide. 600 is better.
If they are only 600 wide, I don't think a moderator would say anything. It's only if the screen scrolls horizontal that we say anything.
