Default Looking for dirt cheap Hali rods

What's a good pick for some dirt cheap Halibut rods? Something that will handle 2-3lb.'s of lead.

Englund Marine has their unbreakable rods that sell for around $50. I'm sure they were selling them at the show if you went (I wasn't there). They'd be an economical choice if money is an issue.
IMHO, they may be unbreakable, but hang 4#'s of lead on your leader and watch the tip bend. The rods have a lot of back bone, but a little light on the tip for me when the drift is fast and requires a lot of weight to stay down.

I would like to know which rods most charter boats carry. I'm sure their not the most expensive ones yet get the job done at a reasonable price. I need to purchase 4 or 5 rods to go with my Daiwa 50h reels.

I dont knoiw how they would work for halibut but the cheap shakespeare rods will hold the weight. They are about 20 and 15 on sale.

Some of the charters use Shakespear Sturdy Sticks, which are the rods mentioned above. You get what you pay for. I would spend 50 and get the tidewater series instead or go with the Englund rods. Those sturdy sticks have like 4 guides on a 6 foot rod. Not too good.

I've used the Sturdy Stiks too, and they will work. But, the size of the handle and grip are quite a bit smaller than the Tiger Ugly Stiks, making them harder to hold, and making for a more miserable day of reeling and trying to hang on.

I use Tigers in Medium Heavy and they are great. For a while, Sportsman's Warehouse in Salem had them for $45 if I remember right.

Waiteman, If you are interested I have several 5'5" Custom Made heavy Halibut rods with Fuji guides I will let go for a donation to Ifish of $20 or so. I used them in Ak and they are in goood shape. Good heavy handles and rod seats. I think I have three left. Somebody needs to put these to a good use.
