Default Hyder, Alaska

Has anyone seriously fished the Portland Canal out of Hyder? I've been there twice and fished it once with a friend but his boat had very little range. Word was you needed to go at least thirty miles down the inlet towards Ketchikan. I would really like to hit it this year and looking for anyone interested in going along with or without a long range boat. I carry 80 gallons and have at least an 150 mile round trip range with plenty of fishing time in between.

Hyder is a two day drive from Portland and some of the most beautiful country you can imagine. Towering cliffs and glaciers and all protected water.

In August the brown bears are out in force and the photography opportunities are unlimited. There are two motels in Hyder and it is not hard to get rooms. Very reasonable.

August is the time for silvers from what I hear and Halibut are available although the depths are almost unfishable. 600 feet in places.

Right now I'm looking for more info from someone who has been there, done that.

The salmon river at Hyder has a run of large chum salmon. If one was to fish the river with 10# line there is a chance to break the IGFA 12# record (22+ pounds). I never went this far from Ktn.
There are some better access ports down by Prince Rupert. I'll try to find my charts and email you their names and how to get there.
The fishing and crabbing on the Alaska side of Portland Canal is excelent due to its remote location (from Alaska ports).
If I'm still not working :depressed: by then I wouldn't mind going up. I might have to rob a bank for the gas money with the way prices are going up
