Photo Contest #14 -- Summer Fun
I have been given the go-ahead to lead the contest since our last organizer has given it a rest. Thanks for all your great work Matthew!
For this contest, we are going to show our best pics of Summer Fun...in the sun, on the water, rolling around in the sand, playing BBQ chef, playing frisbee... whatever you like to do in the summer, so long as it has a summer theme. Post up your best two, with a catchy title, a little story, and your camera info.
Please refer to the usual contest rules by checking the sticky and prior contest intro's. Please feel free to question and comment positively and constructively on other's images so we can all learn to be better photographers. When refering to a pic, please use it's post # so we don't get alot of quoted pics displacing posting space.
As for judging, please PM me if you are interested - as usual, prior winners are given the honor first.
The contest will close in three weeks, at midnight Sunday, August 10, 2008, so charge up those cameras and get to work!
First Prize will be a brand new I-Fish Quickfish donated by Pete and other prizes may be added.
Example:
Thanks for enduring the changeover, I hope I can make this a fun, rewarding, and educational experience for everyone.

Re: Photo Contest #14 -- Summer Fun
Note to self reading comprehension is fundamental! I missed the part of the instructions above where we could post two of our favorite pics for the contest so here is my second entry:
Both of these balloon pics were taken with a Canon Rebel XTi using automatic settings since this is only the second time that I have had it out. My wonderful Wife made the arrangements for the hot air balloon trip to celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary yesterday (July 20th).
PS: Thanks for the comments about my first entry. It looks even better in a larger format.

This photo was taken at Shore Acres Park. The camera was on auto, nothing fancy.
This was taken at a Mariners game last year. Photo was taken with camera on auto setting.

Re: Photo Contest #14 -- Summer Fun
Wow, this contest is really shaping up! For a black and white fiend, I'm really liking the colors. The kid shots are wonderful; modern day nostalgia. The composition of the feet and the flyrod are killer. Nice shots everyone, keep 'em coming.
So who wants to be a judge? Send me a PM.

Re: Photo Contest #14 -- Summer Fun
Catching some air!
Nikon D80, Nikkor 12-24 F4 wide angle zoom on 12 mm, shutter priority @1/250th of a second, exposure comp -.7, WB full sun +0. Composition was intentional with the blue sky background and the trampoline just in the bottom of the frame. Wish I had a better angle w/o the ugly fence, but it wasn't worth dragging the whole setup to a different corner of the yard.

There's neither, but that's not to say it's not possible. I'm not sure about categorizing adult skill level, but in the spirit of fun for youngsters... Sure, why not? As long as it's OK with Pete, I would be happy to make a separate judging for Kids under... How old are you? I'm sure someone can donate a cool kid prize, maybe an extra rod or tackle. I'll bet my 6yr old would like to compete too. Just mention your age if you want to be in the Kids Summer Fun Category.

Re: Photo Contest #14 -- Summer Fun
Geting mine in at the last minute after getting home from the airshow this weekend.
The first one is some of our little ones playing in a wading pool while visiting some friends. You can tell how much the just "hated" doing it too!!
The second is of our youngest, David, being totally oblivious to anything but the sand, his shovel and his bucket at the beach on the South side of Newport this last month.
Both pictures were taken with my Olympus 790SW using the pre-programmed scene modes.

Re: Photo Contest #14 -- Summer Fun
Great Job everyone! The judges are picked and they will be choosing Olympic Style... Their favored photo's will be rated 1-5 in certain categories and the winner will have the highest score. Best Individual Category winners will be named and I will offer comments on their photos. Should have the results in a couple days. Again, fine work - I can hardly wait for the next contest. Doc
