Greenlings?
I will be down in Nehalem Labor Day Weekend. I wanted to give Greenling fishing a try. Is there any good fishing for them in Nehalem Bay or Tillamook Bay? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Send a PM if you like. Thanks.

I've caught a few on the Tillamook north jetty (bay side) with a poke-pole. They weren't especially large. I think if you used small baits (sand shrimp, mussels, etc), a size 6 snelled hook and a 3/4 ounce weight you would do ok in the hidey holes on the jetty.
Be really careful out there. The green moss turns to slime when it gets wet from spray, and I fell so hard I busted a reel. Lucky I didn't bust more.

Re: Greenlings?
I used to fish the north jetty a lot and did real good some days. They'd run from 12 to 16 inches with most in the 14 range. Gotta go out beyond where most folks are willing to walk. If the jetty gets wet from wind and waves you aren't going to have fun getting back.

Re: Greenlings?
As a side note, anyone know if it is legal to use live greenlings as bait in Oregon? I was at the Outdoor Emporium tuna seminar and I was discussing bottom fishing with another attendee. When I mentioned catching greenlings off the CR south jetty he said they make excellent live bait for ling cod. When he catches them up in the Puget Sound he just puts a big hook through their lips and sends them back down. He said they are killer for really big lings.

Re: Greenlings?
Best Ling bait I have ever used. There very tough, and many time I have re-used the same greenling 3 or 4 times. I caught 4 very nice lings on this one.
The greenling does count against your rockfish limit of the day, legally speaking.

Re: Greenlings?
Straight from the fishing regs........
Live fish may not be used or held for use as bait, except live nongame fish may be used in the ocean, bays and tidewaters when
taken from the waterbody in which they will be used.
I thought that greenling were a game fish?.........they have a limit and legal length

Re: Greenlings?
What kind of gear are y'all using for greenlings? I might be considering giving this a try, but I'm mostly set up for trout/bass.

Wait, so according to that, halibut, bottom fish, lings, and tuna aren't game fish... Is that maybe only a freshwater list?

Re: Greenlings?
Stop by the local sporting goods store and pick up a synopsis, set it in the room you do your business in, you can read it as needed.
