Std Horizon Fuel Meter Rebate
The Standard Horizon FF-41 fuel meter is being promoted. They are offering a $75 factory mail in rebate. Best price I found is $189 making the net cost $114. If you were thinking about it, now's the time.

Re: Std Horizon Fuel Meter Rebate
This is the unit I have. Never worry about running out of fuel again. If you don't have one, you should. Good diagnostic for the carbs too, if your mileage goes to hell, you have a problem.

Try this link:
web page
I called Standard Horizon and they confirmed the $75 rebate until the end of March.
I heard Navman makes them for Std Horizons.

Re: Std Horizon Fuel Meter Rebate
How difficult are these things to install? Can an average backyard mechanic do it himself, or should it be left to a professional?
Thanks,

Re: Std Horizon Fuel Meter Rebate
Very easy to install. Simple hose fittings in/out and run the wiring.
My dash gauge reads 1/2 empty when I reach Tuna town when I've actually only burned less than a 1/4 tank. If I went by my gauge I'd already have to head home. That's the piece of mind the Nav-Man/Std. Horizon gives you.

Re: Std Horizon Fuel Meter Rebate
Thanks corrirod, sounds like something I'll have to invest in. I never did trust my fuel gauge.

Re: Std Horizon Fuel Meter Rebate
They don't measure the fuel in the tanks, they measure the fuel consumed. We installed a Flo-scan unit on our boat, which is the same type of product, and our consumption dropped about 15%. You can adjust the RPMS to the most economical speed based on the meter and water conditions. The meter reads out GPH being used and also total gallons burned since you filled the tank and reset the gauge. It makes your float/fuel gauge expendable. As Corrirod stated, they're never right anyway. Whatever you pay for it they are worth it. I feel it is as important as the radio, GPS, and compas. It will pay for itself in saved fuel and piece of mind. No reason to ever run out of fuel again.

Re: Std Horizon Fuel Meter Rebate
Mr. Pocket,
That looks like it would be a great Valentines present for the boat. Are you getting one? Are you going to install it yourself?
Clipped,
You can save fuel with them by tweaking your RPM and trim to get the best knots per hour / gallons per hour ratio. I.E. knots per gallon...

Re: Std Horizon Fuel Meter Rebate
Mr. Quest,
Bought it today mail order from VIT. I'm going to install it myself. It's seems pretty simple, so I'm going to give it a shot in my spare time. If you need one for the Good Sport, now's the time.

Re: Std Horizon Fuel Meter Rebate
Quoted accuracy is 5% out of the box, 2% calibrated (burn a tank and then tell it how much you burned). Mine is more like 10% right out of the box. That's 10% on the high side, which is where I want it.

Re: Std Horizon Fuel Meter Rebate
I have considered these in the past. A question for those with experience with these...
Is there a difference between the Standard Horizon and the NavMan? (warranty, function, reliability)?
Also, I don't have room on the dash of my NR for another 2" gauge. Would it be imprudent to remplace my currently useless fuel gauge with the flow meter? I know some of you 'salty dogs' like two of everything with a 'analog or manual' backup of those, so doing this would not give me any redundancy. It would give me a level of accuracy over what I currently have, though. Am I off on this?

Re: Std Horizon Fuel Meter Rebate
No difference. They are identical, and I think the NavMan is a repackage of the same unit by an Aussie licensee. A bit cheaper, but when I tried to get one through boaters world, they were backordered, and they didn't know when they would get them in, so I just bought the standard horizon. Literally took me an hour to put it in.
I ditched my dead trim guage for it. No new holes in the dash, no new power lines.

Is there a difference between the floscan and the standard horizon? Or should I go for the best deal?

Re: Std Horizon Fuel Meter Rebate
No difference in the units. My unit is set about the same as Threemuch. I like it on the high side.
As far as the analog gauge goes, I kept mine and I'm glad. The reason, because the flowmeter is only as accurate as your last RESET and I'm rather forgetful. The flowmeter keeps track of what goes to the engine, not what goes into the tank on a fill up. You've got to make sure and reset the gauge so it knows you're starting with a full tank again. At least with the analog gauge I still have a rough idea of where my fuel level stands.
If I didn't have room on the dash for another instrument though I'd have probably gotten rid of it also.

I have been looking at those for about a year . Glad I saw you talking about them. I ordered mine yesterday. I going to have to get a bigger boat if I keep adding stuff to my dash.

Mr. Pocket,
OK I'll order one. You can advise me on the installation experience when you come up for shrimp, eh?

Re: Std Horizon Fuel Meter Rebate
Just ordered a unit, back ordered until friday the 14th. he told me they have move a huge number of these units. so if your thinking about it make sure and place that order while they are still honnering the rebate.
they kind of nick you on shipping almost $10.00. but even with that its still less than nav-man at $149.99
