Default Bird watching?

I took my son for hike Yesterday and we took a picture of a bird(baby) it was 1 1/2" tall I was 18" from it when I took the picture.

My guess is a Killdeer? They nest around my firestation and look kinda like that.

Awwww, cute. Looks similar to a kildeer, but with that stripe down its head, wouldn't that be neat if it was a rail??! Oregon has very few rails, but I have seen one at our pond in Polk County. It was a long time ago and I can't remember now if I thought it was a Virgina Rail or a yellow rail.
