Default Garmin 76/76S/176 Owners - Like your units?

I am considering buying one of these units and using BlueChart. Does the 76 have enough memory to be usable, and are the 76/76S screens decently readable? Is it worth some loss of portability to get the 176 and the bigger screen?

Thanks in advance.

I really like my 76S Orca,I have downloaded close to 25 charts off the Blue water CD and haven't used half the memory.I know Wak's got the 76 mounted in his boat and I havent heard him complain about the size of the screen,I've had mine at Tuna Town and 8,200 ft in Idaho Elk hunting no Regrets here.RJ

I love my 76 MAP.
And it floats. I don't leave the dock without it.
If I had it to do over again I'd get the 76S but I don't think you could go wrong with either one as a backup unit.

I just got the 76S. I have all of the sections for the columbia river and the coast from northern cali to puget sound loaded and have plenty of room for more.... I really think that the screen and the controls are useable for the ocean and for travel. You will need to be familiar with your unit to be able to navigate successfully with it, and that means practice practice practice.

I have a dash mount gpsmap 162 because I don't need a gps for anything other than fishing. Some folks also hunt and do other activities that require a handheld unit. If you can afford both, get both. I like the bigger screens and buttons of the dash mount unit so that's what I bought.

I have had a GPS 76 for a couple years now and have had nothing but good luck with it. If you can pony up the $ for the 76 map It would be even more usefull. My only complaint is the track line is really skinny and sometimes hard to see.
One more tip I have is do not forget to check for free downloadable updates from time to time on Garmins web page. These are not just fixing glitches they are actually product improvments.
