Default Off Day

Got up at 2 am, left the house a 2:30 to go to fishing partners home. His house was dark. Pounded on the door and woke him up. His plan was to drive his own car cuz he was going to stay at the coast for the weekend. I leave with boat in tow for Hammond. Get to Astoria and the bridge to Warrenton is closed for repair, have to detour on the Youngs Bay Bridge. arrive Hammond and launch the boat with no problems, done it a thousand times. Partner arrives and we load up the boat with his gear. The plan was to get there early enough to cross the bar before the tide blew it out. The bar was restricted to 26'. Plan "B" went into effect, fish for sturgeon. Was so sure we would get there early enough to cross the bar that we didn't pick up fresh sturgeon bait. Big mistake, Make note to myself "When I have a Plan "B", prepare for it as if it is a Plan "A". We fished frozen bait until around 9:30 and got tired of watching others catch fish so we pulled up anchor and crossed the bar. Dropped 2 crab traps and went lookling for salmon. The radio chatter sounded good for someone, we couldn't get a bite though, couldn't find rips or temp breaks, fished where I had caught them a week before. We fished until around 2 pm and then picked up the crab traps. 3 keepers. Came back in accross a nice bar. The ocean was lumpy but not bad. My wife asked me what's the difference between Lumpy and Sporty, (she hears me use those terms) I tell her sporty is lumpy with wind. After a long day and a long drive back home, I'm ready to eat the crabs, take a shower and go to bed. Hope others that went out had a more productive day.

Just say NO! to "No fish zones".

Worst case? "It's all about the debris field..."
