Default Mounting a spare tank?

My boat is a 22' Reinell walkaround with a 351 Ford, and I have a 62 gallon tank in the floor of my boat right now, but would like some more fuel. The only place I can put one is on the port side next to the passenger seat, but I also have the kicker mounted on the same side. With fuel weighing 6lbs a gallon at say 25gal. that's 150 lbs, 120 lbs. for kicker, and 200 lbs. for passenger, with a grand total of about 470 lbs. Then there's me on the other side weighing in at a svelte 260 lbs., I have trim tabs that work about half of the time and can compensate for this, but would really like it more evenly distributed, will I regret all this weight on one side?

Greg,

I haven't looked into them but my neighbor has, you might try to do a search on the web for custom saddle tanks. It's a great way to keep the weight distributed evenly because they can fit on the sides of your boat, underneath the gunnels. I'm not sure how your boat is laid out but it could be a good way to put an extra 25-30 gallons in the boat and still keep the weight distribution even.

Good luck and I'll forward any information I find if you're interested.

That's the type I'm looking at, but only have room on the one side. Overton's has a pretty good assortment to choose from but hard to buy without seeing one. I'd love some more info or even a peek at his boat.

P.S. What time are you picking me up for the budget hearing in Salem?

I was just going to suggest you check Overton's. I just did a quick search on the web and there are quite a few brands out there. You could always just seal off your cabin and fill'er up with fuel? That's probably the only way you and I will ever be able to make an overnighter!

I had thought about trying to make the hearing but I've got the 2 rugrats and I'm not sure they're interested in sitting thru a 12 hour session. I've got some other business to do down there though so I might just stop by.

Gregotis98, take a look at Uglygreens fuel setup. Low tech and cheap but it looks like a winner. Basically he is using a 20 gallon polyethylene chemical barrel (Blue) and a home made pickup tube. This consumes very little deck space and on his boat the tank is tied to the front of the console.

I'm guessing here but a temporary setup is what you need. You would only use it on TUNA! days. So ugly would not matter.

At 265 lbs. myself I won't make any skinny jokes, but I have to ask, is it getting harder to tie the shoes? I went and bought a bigger boat to balance things out.

Gregotis98-
I carry 25 extra in two portable tanks. I keep them out on the back deck. Burn em on the way out, disconnect, and use the main for trolling and the run home.

I don't worry too much about distribution of weight, that's what the trim tabs are for.
