Default Tri Tip recipies

Picked up a few for the weekend and looking for ideas on how to prep them for the BBQ

Try basque marinade. Poke the heck (fork) out of them, while they are marinating. Sear both sides real hot and fast, and then slow it down for approximately 35~45min (depending on the size). You can slice real thin for incredible sandwiches w/horseradish/peppers...etc, or you can just slice into medallions and serve with your normal barbeque table fare.

Let it rest after removing from the grill for 5~10min, and my preference is medium rare...the ends will cook quicker than the middle obviously. Hope that helps.

a good steak rub then use a food saver to seal it while it marinades. then cook as above. The more rare/medium rare the better. for a side dish, throw some cut up baby reds, carrots and walla walla onions with butter, garlic, pepper and dill. wrap the veggies in a couple of layers of tin foil and cook them on the grill along side the Tri Tip. Veggies take about 30-45 minutes.

You really shouldn't have to do much for a great tri-tip. I use a garlic salt/ onion salt/ seasoned salt mix. Apply the mix on the meat and cook over medium hot charcoal until the inturnal temperature hits 125 degrees. Remove. Let the roast rest for about 10 minutes. Slice to about 1/4 inch pieces and enjoy...

A good tri-tip shouldn't need much. Skip the marinades and tenderizing(a nice tri-tip doesn't need to be tenderized). Little salt, little pepper, toss it over some charcoal and cook it however you like. Cut into thin slices when done. This is about my favorite cut, I buy it by the case(75lbs of tri-tip roasts). If you want a GOOD tri-tip try out Costco. You save alot of money when you buy it in the case. Usually around $3.45-$3.60 per lb.

If you don't want to cook a whole roast, Costco has great tri-tip steaks. A little pink hawaiian sea salt, some black & red spice from Penzey, and a few shakes of garlic powder and you're good to go.

Season to taste. let it set on the counter covered to bring to room temp. Hot grill sear each side 30 seconds. Use indirect high heat. Don't over cook. Use a thermometer to reach 145. Let it rest for 10 minutes. Slice thin across the grain...it will melt in your mouth.

I use Spade L Ranch beef rub, let them sit at room temp for a while then throw in the smoker with hickory chips until medium rare in the middle. Slice thin and eat on a nice sandwich roll with your choice of sauce. I really like that Spade L for any type of beef from roasts to ribeyes. They have it for chicken, pork, fish, etc also....

Double rap in foil, place on medium grill for about 35-40 minutes, turning once at half way point. Nothing easier, nothing better.

Per roast, marinate overnight in 1 cup of vegetable oil, 1 cup of worchestershire sauce, and 1/4 of ride wine vinegar. Throw on the bbq, medium-high, 15 minutes on the 1st side and 10-12 minutes on the 2nd (depending upon thinkness of the roast). Serve in 1/2" slices. Absolute perfection!

Goes great with a good potato or pasta salad!

Has anyone tried throwing them in the smoker for a bit before grilling? If so lets us know so if it is a bad idea someone (me) does not ruin a tip trying it. Works great on Brats and other meats but I have never tried it on anything as thick as tips.

I have tried a smoked tri tip and it was the juciest best tri tip ever. Melt in your mouth good and cut it with a spoon tender.

I actually didnt smoke it. It was served at a wedding reception that I went to this summer. However I did ask some questions. All I got out of them was '"4-5 hours. You be the judge"

I got this one from a guy who does bbq's for big events.

marinate the meat in a mixture of soy sauce and lemon pepper seasoning over night. place meat on grill and cook. While cooking pour marinade over meat to keep it moist. When meat is done, take off grill, wrap in aluminum foil and let set for 15 minutes.

Are you guys using trimmed or untrimmed tri-tip? I ask because we sell a lot more untrimmed at freddys where I work, so I am assuming they are slow cooking those over a grill/bbq.

My tri-tip rub:

2 part kosher salt
2 part black pepper
2 part dried thyme
2 part dried rosemary
1 part garlic powder
1 part onion powder

Pulse all ingredient in a food processor. You don't want to pulverize it, just mix and break up the herbs a little.

Rub your tri-tip and let set in the fridge for 3-4 hours before grilling (or right before if you are in a pinch). Grill on med-high heat till rare/med rare. Siice thinly across the grain.

Crack a cold one (if youe not done so already) and chow down.
