Default Ques on Furuno 1650?

Salty Dogs,

I counted my pennies and then went to the show today to shop for a GPS/finder unit. My budget is tight! Within my reasonable price range, I found a close out 1650F for $995 and a 1650WF for $1150. Are these a good deal?

I am also trying to decide between the F and WF. I have been told that the only differences are the WAAS shaving about 30 feet off the precision and a brighter screen. The brighter screen does not seem too critical since I have an enclosed cabin. Apparently the WAAS brings the precision down to 15 feet from 50 feet? C-map has been the recommended chart package. Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

MB

C-map and waas! Once you've tried 'em, you'll never go back
to anything else!!!!

I guess it depends on if that's 15' this or the other side of the rocks on the Jetty.
something to think about....

Waas and blue chart get my vote. One difference is how big of area the chips cover. The blue chart chip covers from San Francisco to the Olympic Peninsula on one chip. The accuracy of the Waas I think is worth it.

I usually find the best prices at onlinemarine.com , and they want $1150 for the 1650F. As far as price it looks like a great deal.

Thanks for the help! I decide to go for the 1650WF w/ C-Map. Does Blue Chart only apply to Garmin?

Thanks,

MB

If you have the card writer I believe that you can just purchase the card and load the program onto it. but I don't know for sure.
