Default Yet ANOTHER reason to catch tuna!

Was at the fish and game office looking at there stuff and low and behold a poster of a tuna!! with REWARD 500$ if you bring in a tagged Albacore TUNA!!!

that would be a nice profitable trip if you got one of those.

See ya - I'm off to TUNA Town now! Lemme see - January migration over Hawaii to Japan - yep only need another 3000 gallons of fuel to make it..... one way!

I sure hope those tags don't wear off before next Summer! What do the tags looks like? I'd hate to miss one and feed it to the crabs!

ya gotta admit though... If a guy could actually get one of them... oooieeee...... That would be the most popular fishing trip of the year... Oh forgot to say, you have to send the hole fish in though.

Yeah. I saw a poster in Newport last year.

My daugher (Shree-imp) is doing a report on Albacore for her 6th grade class. In researching, we noted that 215 albies were tagged in Los Angeles and then released. 11 months later, one was caught that had 7,800 miles!

WaaaaaHooo! (oops, I mean TUUUUUNAAAAA!)

I thought there were only 15 tags initially, but more were deployed last September, with more deployed next June. See this link:

AFRF Website

and

web page

The one thing I recall is that if you should be so lucky (oops, skilled) to catch a tagged fish, you have to freeze it whole and ship it to these folks.

Mark Mc, allow me to clarify... the text we were reviewing was published in the 80's. I don't know when the tagging might have actually occurred. It was just documented that it happened.
